A 32-year-old man from Jerusalem was arrested today (Sunday) on suspicion of robbing a monastery in the Ein Kerem neighborhood of the city.

According to the suspect, two masked suspects entered the convent last week, forced one of the nuns on the spot with masking tape, sealed her mouth, and stole a large amount of foreign money from the place.

This is an event that took place on Wednesday morning.

Another nun who was there, ran to her room and fortified herself there.

She called the police but the two managed to escape.

The detention of one of the suspects was extended by three days.

The second suspect has not yet been apprehended.

The man caught is suspected of committing an armed robbery in a gang and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The suspect denies what is attributed to him.

According to his lawyer Golan Meiri, the suspect was previously employed at the place as part of his work installing fiber optics and therefore his fingerprints were found at the place.

A City Magistrate's Court judge ordered his detention extended by three days but noted that the reasonable suspicion against the suspect is at a not-so-high threshold.
