In Bavarian retail, most people still wear masks.

They don't have to, because the Corona rules have largely fallen since April 3rd.

Munich – Going to the supermarket or other retail shops this Monday (April 4) has hardly changed compared to last week – although most of the corona measures in Bavaria have been lifted since yesterday.

Among other things, the mask requirement.

The overwhelming majority of customers and employees still wear masks, according to the Bavarian Trade Association.

Around 90 percent stuck to it, said managing director Bernd Ohlmann.

He was pleasantly surprised: "The mask is not a discontinued model." Even in smaller shops with few people, the mask predominates, said Ohlmann.

The employees there often adapt to the mask habits of the customers.

Overall, however, the association representative assumes that the mask will become rarer in the long run - especially if the number of infections continues to fall and it gets warmer.

Corona in Bavaria: Companies wanted to ask customers to wear a mask voluntarily

Before the mask requirement was abolished, numerous large food and retail chains had made it clear that they would not issue any corresponding rules on domiciliary rights.

According to a survey by the trade association, only every ninth retailer in Bavaria wanted that.

However, many companies wanted to ask their customers to wear a mask voluntarily.

The FFP2 mask can be hung on the hook for shopping in Bavaria's supermarkets.

Nevertheless, most people continue to leave their masks on.

The Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) drew a positive balance of the first day without a mask requirement and access controls on Sunday.

"The mood was relaxed," reported state manager Thomas Geppert.

According to him, about half of the guests still wore a mask.

The staff was about 30 percent.

The abolition of the Corona rules is "a step towards normality," said Geppert.

The keyword is personal responsibility.

According to a survey by Dehoga, only a fraction of the hosts rely on access restrictions or mask requirements by domiciliary rights.

Corona in Bavaria: Measures have been omitted since April 3rd

The mask requirement and other corona rules in many areas of public life have been eliminated since Sunday.

However, the state government recommends wearing masks indoors and in retail.

Larger incidents related to the abolition of the regulations or the enforcement of domiciliary rights were not initially known.
