It shouldn't be flamboyant, but rather inconspicuous.

Now the art competition for the planned Karl Obermayr sculpture in Freising begins.

Freising

– In Munich there is a Monaco Franze monument for Helmut Fischer.

Nothing in Freising is reminiscent of the city's most famous actor: Karl Obermayr.

That should change now.

Together with many partners, the Stadtheimatpflege Freising association wants to have a sculpture by Karl Obermayr installed on the future seating steps down to the open Stadtmoosach (we reported).

Now the art competition begins.

“Karl should sit on a step inconspicuously and unpretentiously,” emphasizes Bernhard Reiml, chairman of the Stadtheimatpflegeverein.

"Anyone who wants to can sit next to him in the future and watch what's going on in the city center."

Karl Obermayr: He became famous as Manni Kopfeck

The man who became famous for playing the grumpy detective Manni Kopfeck in Helmut Dietl's television series Monaco Franze died more than 35 years ago.

Obermayr's appearance as a depressed innkeeper in the "Munich Stories" is also legendary, as Reiml recalls.

Obermayr is certainly known to a large part of the television audience from numerous other Bavarian film and television productions - just think of "Meister Eder and his Pumuckl" or "Kir Royal".

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

With the participation of the public, an artist is now being selected who is to make the statue of Karl Obermayr.

The Stadtheimatpflege association is supported by the architectural firm Fiedler + Partner in making a model and collecting the entries for the competition.

Interested artists can contact Reinhard Fiedler, who will answer all questions and have detailed documents for the preparation of the competition entry ready for mailing.

Here we go: The deadline for submission is June 30, 2022

The deadline for all contributions from artists is June 30, 2022. Reiml: "The models should be presented to the public and evaluated by an independent jury with representatives from the city and experts." The selected winning model should be submitted by the artist by autumn be made and installed on the occasion of the Moosach opening at the end of the year.
