"As part of our fight against the violent conflicts over the illegal weapons, we carried out operations in the town of Lakia today," said Corporal Shahaf Aharon, commander of the Southern Border Squadron.

"We received an intelligence indication of the presence of an illegal weapon deep in the ground. We arrived and used a backhoe. During the search, two barrels were found - in which we found hundreds of illegal weapons items ready for use.

This is one of the significant perceptions we have had recently and the investigation is ongoing. "

Three suspects, residents of Tuba Zangaria, were captured on Thursday with 61 weapons and drugs worth a total of about three and a half million shekels - a thwarting of the largest arms smuggling operation carried out on the Lebanese border.

This, after a chase by detectives from the Central Unit of the Northern District after the three arms dealers, who were finally arrested near the carrier junction.

The suspects were driving a Skoda and were arrested after police blocked their way.

During a search of their vehicle, 61 weapons were seized in two cases: 58 pistols, three M16 rifles and a substance suspected of being a drug weighing half a kilo.

From the beginning of the year in a period of only three months, the unit thwarted 4 smuggling attempts, during which 120 weapons were seized.

"Some estimate the value of the 61 weapons we seized at NIS 3 and a half million, but I ask that you frustrate it otherwise, these high-quality and new weapons, if they had reached the streets of the Arab sector, would have been fired!" .
