The mask requirement in retail has been lifted since Monday.

Many people wear them anyway, others are happy about the freedom of choice

Geretsried/Wolfratshausen - Shopping hasn't smelled so intensely for a long time.

Karin Metelka browses the range at Intersport Utzinger in Geretsried without an FFP2 mask.

Since Monday, the mask requirement has been history in many areas of public life - in retail, for example, it has been omitted.

"I think that's okay," says the woman from Geretsried, who is examining a water-repellent winter jacket.

The Geretsriederin understands that some retailers continue to demand an FFP2 mask from their customers.

Metelka and her companion, who doesn't want to read his name in the newspaper, decided to go shopping without a mask.

"I make it dependent on whether there's a lot going on," says the man - and at lunchtime, which the duo use to go for a stroll, there are only a few people around them.

"I'm glad that I can finally make my own decisions." But Metelka's companion has his mask in the inside pocket of his jacket, ready to hand just in case.

Matthias Neumann: Wolfratshauser still thinks protection makes sense.

Most people who are out and about in Geretsried and Wolfratshausen this Monday have their mouth and nose protection with them as ever.

Matthias Neumann pulls it over his face before opening the door of "Krells Tabakwaren" on Obermarkt in Wolfratshausen.

A reference to the mask requirement was still hanging on this until Saturday.

A look into the store shows a familiar picture: Even without a bid, almost all customers wear their mouth and nose protection.

Of seven visitors entering (and leaving) the store within minutes, only one woman is out without an FFP2 mask.

"Most people are probably just used to it," says Neumann.

"Perhaps that will run out again over time" if the new regulation of the mask requirement in public spaces is in force a little longer.

Corona regulations updated: the majority of customers wear a mask even if they are not required to

That's how Ute Hanke sees it too.

The woman from Wolfratshausen visits – with a mask – the Conny Broenner jewelery shop on the Obermarkt.

In an interview with saleswoman Gabi Will, she explains that she is concerned that the number of new corona infections could continue to rise.

People could show less caution because they are allowed to leave the mask in their jacket pocket.

"I'm a bit afraid that we'll be caught in the open," says Hanke.

For her, one thing is certain: her mask stays, “even if it actually bothers me”.

She was in contact with the saleswoman in the shop for a few minutes.

"I think it makes sense if we both wear a mask," says Hanke.

"For me it's also a question of treating each other with respect." Gabi Will nods in agreement.

"So far, everyone has come into the shop with a mask anyway," reports the saleswoman.

The sign that has been pointing out that masks are compulsory in the store for months is still hanging on the door – even if the law no longer stipulates it.

Nobody complained about that.

Geretsried: "Please wear an FFP2 mask," wishes the Gelting village shop

The village shop in Gelting does the same thing.

"It's now a recommendation," says employee Monika Kriesmair about the Din A4 paper on the glass door.

"For your protection and ours: Please wear an FFP2 mask," it says.

A young woman enters the shop with her son, ignores the note and still pulls the mask over her nose as a matter of course.

"I've noticed that most people do it that way," says Kriesmaier.

Walter Schmidt “always puts on” the mask – he takes it off for the photo.

Just like Walter and Barbara Schmidt, who stop in front of the store and rummage in their bags for the FFP2 masks - white for him, pink for her.

"I always put them on," says Walter Schmidt.

It is an automatism - as if you buckle up before driving a car.

The couple walked to the village shop to have a latte macchiato in the associated café.

There are also fruit cakes and croissants.

t is an everyday pleasure that the two seniors treat themselves to from time to time.

"But otherwise we don't travel much," explains Schmidt, "that's why the mask doesn't bother me."
