The winner of the Israel Prize in the field of Lifetime
Achievement in a special contribution to society and the state for the year 2002 is Marioma Klein, the founder of the Shanti House, Minister of Education Yifat Shasha Bitton announced today (Monday).
"To Ms. Marioma Klein for her many years of work on the social-community level," the award committee said.
"The commandment 'and love your neighbor as yourself' is a candle to her feet. In recent decades she has initiated, established and operated the Shanti House in a wide nationwide distribution intended for populations on the social fringes of the State of Israel regardless of religion, race and gender."
The committee also emphasized that "Marioma imparts principles of education, inclusion and the cultivation of populations at risk of reintegration into the core of Israeli society."
After learning of the win, Klein spoke with Walla !.
"I haven't had time to breathe yet, my cucumber and pastrami got stuck in my esophagus," she said.
"I eat something and suddenly hear about it from the minister. I did not answer, I was at a training session in Shanti in the desert. I said I am talking to the children here, I can not be disturbed."
"I'm in the market. I have tears," she continued.
"I'm going through a difficult time. You say to yourself - you're doing this for 38 years, persevering along the way, truly yours. Anyone who wants to will see the truth in this factory called the Shanti House. Suddenly it came to me and I stutter. Say thank God. All I want "That this place and enterprise will continue on its way. If that is what I received from the State of Israel after many difficult journeys, I can only say that truth and perseverance win."

"In the face of souls like me who have experienced extremes of violence, sexual assault, suffering, pain and especially abandonment from parents, those who should have been the anchor, security and initial embrace, there is a choice to disengage or overcome, be a victim or choose life," Klein wrote on the Shanti website.
"A moment of enlightenment and understanding led me to my destiny and to the essence of my life. In a moment of clarity I realized that my way is to create a cosmic family of souls like me who have not experienced home and family. The way God guided me In it I found the essence of my way in this world. That is, I already had a destiny and a purpose and no one could stop me and the understanding and belief in the way I chose. I knew I came into the world to help children like me choose life, faith, passion, optimism and hope. "They are saving their lives every day."
"Every day I am thankful and thankful for the privilege of seeing miracles happen at every choice of a boy or girl who sometimes lived as homeless children to save their lives," she added.
"Thank you and thank you to the exciting team of souls who have chosen their destiny to walk with me and give strength, hope and love to the children who have chosen life."
