The utility bill for 2022 is likely to come as a shock to many consumers.

Here you can already read how much additional costs customers have to reckon with.

Munich - The Ukraine war is not only driving up gas and oil prices.

In connection with this, the prices for electricity are also rising.

More and more electricity providers are moving with the prices on the market and increasing the costs for consumers.

The head of the energy giant Eon has also announced that it will raise prices for its customers.

Electricity price: Consumers now pay 39 percent more

But how will things continue in the future?

As the comparison

portal Check24

explains, the exchange electricity prices are likely to remain at a relatively high level.

Because demand is increasing, but the coal phase-out means that less can be produced.

Last year, however, coal was still the most important energy source* for generating electricity.

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office*, coal-fired electricity accounted for 30.2 percent of the amount of electricity fed into the grid in 2021.

In March a year ago, a model household with a consumption of 5,000 kWh paid an average of 1,509 euros per year for electricity.

According to

Check24

calculations, consumers now have to shell out a whopping 39 percent more, i.e. 2,098 euros a year.

A real relaxation is not in sight.

Only the abolition of the EEG surcharge from July 1 could result in a small reduction.

Gas price: Model household now pays more than 3,000 euros more

When it comes to gas, the situation is similarly tense.

Due to the Ukraine crisis*, however, price developments here are difficult to predict.

Should the EU decide to stop supplying Russian gas, this would probably drive up prices enormously.

According to

Check24

, the average gas price increase for basic suppliers is 59 percent.

A model household (consumption of 20,000 kWh) therefore has to pay 904 euros more per year.

Steffen Suttner, Managing Director of Energy at

Check24

, told

tagesschau.de

: "Energy costs have been rising steadily since 2020 and have literally exploded since the end of 2021." A model household (5,000 kWh of electricity and 20,000 kWh of gas or 2,000 liters of heating oil) needs about 80 percent more. now pay compared to the same month last year.

According to calculations by the comparison portal, consumers still paid 4,043 euros for energy in March 2021.

Now it's 7,292 euros.

So 3,249 euros more.

Important to know: In the event of an energy price increase, consumers always have a statutory special right of termination*.

Then the existing contract can be terminated without observing the agreed deadline and the customers slip into the basic service.
