The Minister of Education stated at the beginning of the school year that the primary schools will move to a five-day school format, and the school day on Friday will be called "Social Friday" and will be dedicated to enrichment activities.

However, "Israel Today" has learned that the program will be rejected, and will not begin in the next school year, the year 5733.

Education Minister Yifat Shasha Bitton is currently trying to implement many programs that will change the face of the education system.

The minister, who took office last June, came up with a vision regarding changing matriculation exams, the vacation schedule, how to learn and more.

One of the plans the minister has announced is beyond five school days in primary schools, with the intention of abolishing traditional schooling on Friday, and making the school day a social Friday.

In this framework, enrichment activities and workshops will be held, and classes will be entered by teachers of youth movement instructors, and even high school students, who will be able to carry out their personal commitment project in elementary schools.

The intention was to divide the study hours over the week.

Many parents feared that classes on Fridays would be completely canceled, but in an interview with the Minister of Israel Today, she asked for reassurance, saying that the students would stay in school.

"The intention is to create something with a broad and significant impact. I do not see the education system as a school, but a school, with social and emotional elements," the minister clarified.

As mentioned, during the school year, the Ministry of Education was supposed to build a program for the school week, as part of the new program.

"Israel Today" has learned that the Minister of Education's revolutionary plan will not be implemented at the moment, at least not in the next school year, 5733. Also, at this stage a pilot on the subject is not planned in a limited number of schools or cities.

The Office of the Minister of Education noted that the 'Social Friday' program is part of several long-term programs of the Minister of Education, which was prioritized in advance for more advanced stages.

"The Ministry of Education is working in stages not to shake up the education system, after two years of facing many challenges that require preparation and focused investment. It is important to note that the 'Social Friday' program, which is still under construction these days, is part of the Minister's vision to turn schools into schools. "With characteristics that have a social and community impact, and it is in the minister's work plans for the next stages."

Tomorrow, the students will go on the Passover holiday, which will last more than two weeks - long before homes mark the eve of the holiday - and will return from the holiday only on Sunday, April 24.

Many parents hoped that with the spirit brought by the new Minister of Education, the holiday schedule would also change, but at the moment there is no news on the subject, and no change in the vacation schedule is expected.
