It was a rather spontaneous idea that Doris Haug, treasurer of the cycling section of TV Miesbach, had.

"I thought about how we as an association could do something for the refugees from Ukraine who have come to us in the district," she says.

The result was a special kind of fundraiser.

The TV didn't want to raise money, but bicycles.

On the one hand for the children, who have something to pass the time with it, on the other hand for the adults, who become a little more mobile.

When it came to implementation, it was important to act quickly.

Because the campaign was coordinated with the club's bike flea market, which took place last Saturday in the TV hall.

As reported, there was a short-term deadline in mid-March.

And those who needed a little more time could now hand in used but roadworthy bikes, scooters, balance bikes and bobby cars at the flea market.

Cycling division has contributed

"We collected about 50 bicycles," reports Haug.

Some were placed directly, some went to Markus Wasmeier and his relief effort, others were taken to Fischbachau, where, as is well known, some refugees from the Ukraine are housed in the Birkenstein district.

"It worked very well," says the initiator, who had also collected helmets.

Especially since some bikes were donated after the flea market.

"But we could have used a few more for kids aged seven to ten."

She is satisfied with the campaign: "We were able to make our contribution as a cycling department." Maybe also in an idealistic way, if the campaign serves as a stimulus elsewhere.

In view of the current situation, it will probably not be possible for the Ukrainians who have fled to return in the foreseeable future.
