The President of France referred to the death of Jeremy Cohen, who was run over by a streetcar while trying to escape from assaults • The Jewish presidential candidate, who published the affair, attacked: "Treat the affair with contempt"

The circumstances of the death of the young Jew Jeremy Cohen, who was run over to death by a streetcar while fleeing a group of assailants who beat and abused him in the streets of the Parisian suburb of Boubigni, continue to stir up the French presidential election campaign.

President Emanuel Macron's response to Jeremy's death has drawn sharp criticism from the Jewish presidential candidate, Arik Zamor, who exposed the serious attack that preceded it and caused Jeremy's death in retrospect.

President Macron did indeed express shock at the video showing the attack on Jeremy and the fatal accident that occurred while the 31-year-old Jewish man was trying to escape his attackers.

Macron also expressed solidarity with and support for Jeremy's relatives in the face of "the worst thing they have ever experienced."

The French president also said that his office contacted Jeremy's parents on Monday evening, following the publication of the video of the attack and accident by Eric Zamor and stressed that all relevant government ministers were following developments in the affair.

Macron, however, condemned the exploitation of the affair for political purposes by his rivals in the presidential race.

"There are human dramas, on a daily basis, that should not allow for their political manipulations," Macron said, emphasizing the "sense of responsibility" shown by Jeremy's parents and the lawyer representing them.

However, it was Jeremy's father who approached Eric Zamor after the family members obtained the video documenting the attack that preceded the accident, and asked him to make the affair public in light of the French authorities' tendency to silence the affair.

Yesterday (Tuesday) the father visited Zamor's election headquarters to thank him for bringing the affair to the attention of the general public.

Zamor, for his part, attacked the president and said: "If Emanuel Macron had taken time to meet with Jeremy Cohen's father, he would not have treated this serious affair with such contempt.

Jeremy's death is no longer a drama: it's a national scandal. '

One of the main issues in Zamor's election campaign is the violence and crime on the part of members of Arab and Muslim immigrant communities in France and the helplessness shown by the authorities in the face of the phenomenon.

Bobini's prosecutor, who had already ordered the opening of another investigation into Jeremy Cohen's death following the publication of the video of the assault and the accident, made it clear at a press conference last night that there was no evidence that Jeremy Cohen had been attacked for "discrimination".
