Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Nintendo)

Let's put it on the table, sharp and smooth: no on Kirby.

It's so simple in design but it has everything you could love.

It's a cute and funny pink circle with cool and fun pumping and imitation capabilities, and if you've had access to a Nintendo console over the years (Gameboy and up) then you've probably come across its face (like, technically it's just a face, right?).

Even if you did not play in his main games, then at least you can agree that he is one of the fun fighters in Super Smash Bruce.

"Kirby and the Forgotten Land" is the new title in Kirby's and the first series in the main series that evolved from a two-dimensional platformer game to a 3D action-adventure game and as Super Mario 64 did in 1996, the transition is blessed and done wonderfully without losing a single drop of grace. The original style.

The plot does not matter, we are here for fun

If you are new to Kirby-verse and want to get in but are afraid that you have not played any of its games so far, you will be happy to know that the beauty of Kirby, as in most cases of Nintendo exclusives, is that no prior knowledge is required to enter the game.

In fact, looking for a story here is a waste of time.

Here you will not find much more than "Kirby is a happy and rosy creature in a utopian world where life is beautiful and the sun shines until the universe just turns over like that and now he is in another world (let's say post-apocalyptic) and he has to save his friends. And the truth? All along I felt like the game was trying to tell me "just have fun we took care of you so you would not worry" and I definitely enjoyed, from every moment in the game.

So how is the gameplay?

Well, 7 out of 8 doctors highly recommend and say that the game is one of the most fun that can be purchased for a Nintendo Switch.

The eighth doctor says the game is too easy but we'll talk about that later.

Anyone who has played games like Super Mario or Reiman will soon understand the concept: 7 worlds, divided into stages and side challenges and between stages you can always jump into the home world that offers anecdotes, easy upgrades to abilities and other side things from the main story that you can have fun with.

The stages themselves are usually the simple formula of "you start here, you have to get there" along with puzzles and challenges that are scattered around the stage that can be done to release as many looms as possible ... oh sorry, Waddle-dees, (Rayman fans - the joke was intentional To you) and the main Collectible that develops what the game has to offer.

Platform enthusiasts will feel at home

This task is performed through navigation that combines jumps and runs along the stage (in the game language it is called a platformer), puzzles, and of course how not - continuous battles of pleasure with enemies who are just trying to hurt our pink friends.

To do this, Kirby can jump and even fly as much as his tiny hands will let him wave them and of course, open his muzzle and pump anything that stands in his way.

Is a fox attacking you?

Pump it out and spit it out on another fox, boom!

Two for the price of one.

(Editor's note: Why are the basic enemies the cute foxes that go by the name Awoofy ?! I want to pet them and not attack them!).

But that's not all, some of the more challenging enemies can be swallowed and thus Kirby can copy their powers to him.

For example, a knight attacking Kirby with the sword will give a look reminiscent of Link from Zelda's legend along with a sword that changes the basic attack to a quick and sharp combo with the sword.

Other options can also be spitting fire, boomerang throwing and many other different types that will slightly diversify your playing style.

Inspired by other Nintendo games, including Super Mario Odyssey

These powers, which the game calls Copy Abilities, are one of the foundations of Kirby's gameplay.

It is always exciting to be exposed for the first time to a new ability that gives exciting and fun battle mechanics and also a solution of more or less visible puzzles during the stage and time challenges outside the main story.

Also, with a little patience and resourcefulness you will also be able to upgrade these abilities, for example spitting fire will turn into lava spitting and many others that I do not really want to destroy, because as I said, being exposed to these forces is a lot of fun.

And if it does not sound to you that all these pumps will be enough for you, Kirby Funk this time with a new ability for the series: Mouthful, with which he can pump things a little bigger than him.

Which makes for amusing shapes (like the cone Kirby or the car that became a mime on the net even before the game even came out) that brings even more volume to the great gameplay the series has brought us so far.

Think of the mechanics with the hat in Super Mario Odyssey that help Mario and upgrade his abilities - the same foundation and principle.

All this fun that Kirby brings is packed in a beautiful package of charming graphics with colorful and pleasing to the eye aesthetics, a beautiful soundtrack that lives without rent in my head and just a magical and relaxed atmosphere.

Whether you want your kids to play a colorful action game that doesn’t feel violent (and won’t push them gambling and micro-payments that have become so common in the industry) or something to relax with at the end of the day, Kirby has this cozy place to give you.

Players expecting a challenge may be disappointed

But before you open your wallet, yes there are some drawbacks that are important to note: First and foremost, as I mentioned, the game is apparently intended for children, this is the essence of Kirby.

Do not tell me you looked at the packaging and thought for a moment that this is an expansion pack for God Of War.

Kirby is for kids, even more so than Mario and therefore, his level of difficulty is made accordingly.

This was actually the personal reason I haven’t played Kirby in the last few years, I do like the ballerina, but I also like a challenge.

You will be happy to know that the HAL Laboratory who are developing the game are aware of this and have prepared an option for a higher level of difficulty, Emma - it is not particularly challenging either.

I did not get a few hours of play to die even once and I only got there when I played with deliberate recklessness.

Although it is important to note that the game is not so easy that it can be played with a hug.

Proper response time and thought from the player are still needed to be successful, but this is definitely one of the easier games that Nintendo has to offer (in stark contrast to games like Zelda for example).

The second thing is that the game is very linear.

Unlike Super Mario that each stage is an entire area that can be explored, for Kirby it is an illusion.

It is true that there are secret things to look for at every stage, but soon you will fly into invisible walls more than once or twice.

For me, the experience made me feel like I was in a small box with backgrounds that simulated a world and its fullness.

The game mode for two players needs improvement

The third problem, which can be said to be more of a personal matter for me than a real disadvantage, is the collaborative game element: Nintendo likes to put out games that have the label "two player option", but in practice it seems like they did it net for the label and not necessarily create a truly substantial experience For two players.

Like in Super Mario Odyssey, the other player played Mario's hat, here the player will play Waddle Dee with the bandana (yes that's his name).

The same actor who "gets stuck" with him will painfully feel what it's like to be a secondary character in the Nov story (imagine the No. 4 journalist on the Daily Beagle in a Spider-Man movie).

It does not have the cool pumping capabilities as Kirby has, but only one weapon, and in fact any movement Kirby will make towards the edge of the screen will launch it directly at it.

In my opinion, the game mode could have worked better if there were just two Kirby on screen (come on, there's no real immersion here that will break… this is Kirby).

I would recommend you play in two player mode only if your kids are also playing and he really wants you to play with him.

It's better than passing the sign, but also leaves a bad taste of a clear hierarchy: I'm the main actor, and you're the snob with the spear.

Bottom line

Players looking for the next Legend of Zelda or Red Ded Redemption will not find their answer in a game like Kirby, which simply provides a fun and cute experience for the whole family.

Despite the claims I have made it is still a magical and beautiful fun game, and really there is no other way to describe it beyond "fun".

This is a game that will suck you (ha! You understand ??? I'm sorry…) for hours of fun, that will not make you break your fingers (I look at you Elden Ring) and put your fun in the first place of its priority.

So simply as I said at the beginning: there is nothing about Kirby.
