Munich is sticking to its goal of introducing a 365-euro ticket for students as well.

The financing is still unclear.

The federal and state governments could help.

Munich - The city confirms its desire to introduce a 365-euro ticket for students, analogous to a 365-euro ticket for schoolchildren and trainees.

The Committee on Economics agreed on Tuesday that Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) should work towards cushioning the expected shortfall at the federal and state levels.

If joint financing is successful, the ticket could be introduced as early as 2023.

365-euro ticket for students in Munich: "We should have done that earlier"

Almost all parties in the city council had already made corresponding applications.

CSU boss Manuel Pretzl was therefore pleased on Tuesday in the committee that things are now going a step further.

"We should have done that earlier.

Many jobs for students have been lost as a result of the pandemic. ”Pretzl, however, was critical that it was not foreseeable whether the federal and state governments would make a financial contribution.

"Of course they have to give money, but if that doesn't happen by 2023, then the ticket still has to come."

The discussion with the counties from the area of the Munich transport association (MVV) is essential, said SPD city councilor Simone Burger.

"Students also live there, they have to get on board." It is important that the city now pushes the pace.

"We want to implement it in 2023." Also against the background of resolving the dissent with the tickets for students and trainees.

Tobias Ruff (ÖDP) also emphasized that it is important to get in touch with the partners from the MVV, but also to signal that the city is pushing for a cheap student ticket.

Green City Councilor Clara Nitsche said that mobility enables participation.

"A 365-euro ticket makes an important contribution to more equal opportunities in our city."

The 365-euro ticket was implemented in a first attempt in Munich for schoolchildren and trainees.

In Baden-Württemberg, the state parliament recently introduced a state-wide 365-euro youth ticket.

From September this applies to everyone up to the age of 21 and to students, volunteers and trainees between the ages of 22 and 27.
