For the first time in three years, the Maidult will take place in Regensburg again this year.
Because of the Ukraine war, however, the city decided to impose restrictions.
Regensburg - The last time the Maidult took place in Regensburg was in 2019 - that was almost three years ago.
Due to the corona pandemic, the folk festival on Regensburg's Dultplatz had to take a forced break in 2020 and 2021 - like most other fairs throughout Bavaria.
But this year the time has finally come.
The Regensburg Maidult returns - but will only take place with restrictions.
The reason is the Ukraine war.
War in Ukraine: Regensburg decides on restrictions at Maidult
Because of the war, there will be neither the two fireworks at the beginning and end of the Dult nor the traditional parade this year.
This was recently decided by the city of Regensburg.
However, they did not want to cancel the folk festival entirely, but rather give people “a sign of confidence and joie de vivre after two years of the pandemic” through the Dult.
So the city according to the
Mittelbayerische Zeitung
.
With the proceeds from the various activities at the Dult, Regensburg wants to continue to support its Ukrainian partner city, Odessa.
Violent explosions were reported in the Black Sea city on Sunday.

Regensburg Maidult should be a place of distraction
Walter Metzger is the spokesman for the Dult feeders and, when asked by Merkur.de, states that all around 140 market traders and showmen are very much looking forward to the Maidult.
"We can't wait to build up the business, get in touch with customers and offer people a little distraction." Thoughts are still on the sister city of Odessa.
"We suffer with it," Metzger continued.
The folk festival should offer people distraction.
"It's not a place for celebrations," says Metzger.
"It's a place where people should be distracted from their worries and fears a little." There shouldn't be any major restrictions with regard to the corona pandemic.
Corona forced break for Bavarian folk festivals ended
The spring festival in Munich and the spring festival in Nuremberg will also be held again this year.
Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) had already campaigned in mid-March for the folk festivals to be allowed to take place across Bavaria again without major restrictions.
The Würzburg Spring Festival kicked off at the end of March.
