The humanitarian organization C-I announced that it had rescued 106 illegal immigrants from the Mediterranean.
"The 106 migrants, including children, were rescued by the CI4 ship," the Italian agency, Aki, quoted the organization as saying in a tweet on Twitter, adding that "the Italian authorities allocated the port of Augusta in the Siracusa province, southwest of Sicily, to dock its ship."
She added, "Some of the migrants remained at sea for more than a week amid the waves and cold, noting that among them were 22 children."
On the other hand, 113 migrants are still on board another rescue ship off the Sicilian coast between Catania and Syracuse, waiting for a safe port to be set up to disembark them amid strong winds and waves up to two meters high, making the situation on the ship more difficult.
About 300 migrants died while crossing the central Mediterranean between January 1 and the end of March, according to the International Organization for Migration.
