During the corona pandemic, Malta was characterized by particularly strict entry rules.

But now it is also to be relaxed in the island state.

Originally, Malta did not even want to allow holidaymakers with cross-vaccination to enter the country in summer 2021 – and those who were not vaccinated had to go into a 14-day quarantine* despite a negative corona test.

In the meantime, however, the island state has relaxed many rules and entry for tourists should be even easier on Monday.

Malta is relaxing entry rules for certain countries – including Germany

Tourists from countries that are on the "red list" will

be allowed to enter Malta again from April 11 with a negative PCR test, according to the official visitor

portal visitmalta.com

.

From the perspective of the Maltese government, Germany is also one of them.

The PCR test must not be older than 72 hours upon arrival.

In addition, proof of recovery is also

provided

accepted if they are not older than 180 days.

So far, only those who have been fully vaccinated or who have recovered and who can prove at least one vaccination have been allowed to enter the country.

People without valid proof of vaccination, on the other hand, had to carry out a PCR test directly at the airport at their own expense – according to the Federal Foreign Office, the costs for this amount to 120 euros – and then go to a quarantine hotel.

Corona situation stable in Malta

The government of Malta has also decided that proof of vaccination should no longer be required for outdoor events and indoor events with seating.

The easing has been planned for a long time and is to be carried out in Malta despite the increasing number of infections.

The government justifies this by saying that,

according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) , the

utilization of intensive care units

in Malta is the

lowest in Europe

.

In addition, the majority of the population has already received a third dose of vaccination.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, nearly 93 percent of Maltese are fully vaccinated, making Malta the third-highest vaccination rate in the world.
