Opposition leader MK Benjamin Netanyahu will address the Knesset at noon (Wednesday) in response to the coalition chairman's resignation, MK Idit Silman. Pre-determined to engage in a "murderous wave of terrorism sweeping the streets of Israel and the government doing nothing."

Netanyahu likened Silman's announcement to the Exodus from Egypt.

"We congratulate MK Silman for making the right decision. We all accept her with a warm embrace and open arms. She is back home, to the right and to the national camp," he said.

Netanyahu accused that "there is a weak and weak government in Israel, its days are few" and called on other coalition members to act like it.

"I call on the coalition members whose hearts are in the right place, we are waiting for you, we will receive you with respect and appreciation. Make the right decision today. Join Idit, join us. Together we will form a strong national government that will take care of all Israeli citizens. Everyone without exception."

Silman served as chairman of the coalition and chairman of the health committee.

She is not expected to resign from the Knesset but to resign from the right-wing faction, similar to MK Amichai Shikli who has already resigned in protest of the formation of the government.

Silman's move means that the coalition has only 60 votes and not 61 - and it will find it difficult to mobilize a majority and promote legislation in the Knesset.

Also, with a majority of only 60 MKs, the government will not be able to pass basic laws and will not be able to approve the next state budget, which we planned to start promoting already after the recess.

Silman said she unfortunately could not lend a hand to the government's moves.

"I tried unity. Unfortunately, I will not be able to give a hand in harming the Jewish identity of the State of Israel and the people of Israel. Not everything you know because I tried quietly. I will no longer be able to continue on this path due to the values and the place I come from."

"I will end my membership in the coalition and I will continue to try to persuade my friends to return home and form a right-wing government. I know I am not the only one who feels this way. The Jewish identity of the State of Israel is our right to exist here, it is our heart. "I represent is a red line for me. It is possible to form another government already in this Knesset," she added.

Silman, like other Knesset members on the right, was under heavy pressure from the right in the days before and after the formation of the government.

Demonstrations were held around her home, and in June the Knesset officer instructed her to attach security.

She even reported at the time to senior members of her party that she was regularly monitored when she left her apartment on the streets.

A few months ago, Silman complained that she had been attacked at a gas station in Modi'in.

Her complaints provoked much criticism from opposition MKs who questioned the claim, including opposition leader MK Benjamin Netanyahu, who accused her of "defaming an entire public with a story that may not have been and was not created."

Netanyahu welcomed the move this morning.

"I was very excited to hear Silman's statement and I congratulate her on behalf of the masses of the people of Israel who wish for this moment," he said.

"Idit, proof that what guides you is the concern for Jewish identity in the State of Israel and the Land of Israel among the people of Israel and I welcome you home. Proof that real public representatives act by order of their conscience.
