Parking at Lake Walchensee has not been free since 2021.

After Jachenau, the neighbors in Kochel have now decided to change the fees again.

Kochel am See

– The Walchensee area is one of the most popular destinations in the region.

The fact that the municipalities of Jachenau and Kochel set up parking machines there last year caused some discussion.

Just like the Jachenau neighbors before them, the Kochler municipal council has now made changes to the fee schedule again after the experiences and feedback of the first season.

What is new in Kochel is that there is now an hourly rate at all parking machines throughout the municipality.

Parking at Walchensee: Kochel has an hourly rate for all parking machines

Since the introduction of parking fees, users have received "more or less valuable suggestions", said Mayor Thomas Holz (CSU) on Monday evening in the Kochler municipal council.

In the past two and a half months, 22,745 transactions have been made at the machines.

The daily spa fee was paid separately 689 times.

This is "an astonishingly high number compared to the first estimates," said Holz.

The municipal council has now decided that there should be an hourly rate at all parking machines.

This costs 2 euros instead of one.

You do this on the basis of indications that you have been "too cheap", said Holz.

Hourly tickets are available for one, two or three hours.

A spa fee is not due here.

The day ticket still costs 6 euros (plus daily spa fee).

Walchensee: Jachenau also relies on a parking ticket for one hour

As reported, the municipality of Jachenau - responsible for the parking machines along the toll road on the southern shore of Lake Walchen - also introduced an hourly rate in autumn.

Here the parking ticket for 60 minutes also costs 2 euros.

The municipality wanted to enable visitors to take a short walk at Lake Walchensee or jump into the water after work without having to shell out the full daily fee of 5 euros.

Nothing will be changed in Kochel regarding the chargeable parking time.

This lasts daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. - unless it is a parking area with special regulations.

Parking at Lake Walchen: Day ticket in Kochel is now valid for a full 24 hours

What is new, however, is that the previously free half hour will be cancelled.

But not everywhere: At the car park on Bahnhofstraße/Friedzaunweg (P3) you can still park for two hours free of charge for errands in town.

In other parking areas, the 30 minutes for free "did not fulfill their original purpose," Holz reported to the municipal councils.

It was found, for example at the hiking car parks, that these tickets “were drawn with an unimaginable frequency”.

What has also changed in Kochel is that a day ticket is now valid for a full 24 hours - for example from May 1st, 11 a.m. to May 2nd, 11 a.m.

So far, the day ticket ended at the end of the day.

This is a reaction to the numerous tips from hut guests who stayed overnight on the mountain, said Holz.

However: you can only park your vehicle overnight in the designated areas.

So if there is a night parking ban in a parking lot, you can't overturn it with a 24-hour ticket, explained Holz.

Walchensee: Parking machines in Kochel are being reprogrammed

Frank Sommerschuh, Free Voter Councilor from Walchensee, was skeptical about this point: "I think we're provoking trouble here because some don't see it at first glance." Klaus Barthel (SPD) shared this opinion.

He suggested that these machines should be programmed differently.

According to Holz, that would be very time-consuming.

You can read in each parking lot how long you can park.

One should now "try it like this," said the mayor.

The new regulation applies retrospectively to April 1st.

The company that takes care of the machines for the community is currently working on the conversion to the new software, said Holz.

The decision was unanimous.
