The Germans are not completely satisfied with Chancellor Scholz at the moment – at least that is what a recent survey shows.
The SPD is still growing, while the Union is at a disadvantage.
Berlin - After its victory in the state elections in Saarland, according to a survey, the SPD can also gain favor with federal voters and overtakes the Union.
According to the RTL/ntv trend barometer, the Social Democrats come to 27 percent (plus 3 percentage points compared to the previous week), while the CDU, as the loser in the Saarland election, loses two points nationwide together with the CSU and is now at 24 percent - a change at the top so.
The Greens, who narrowly missed the five percent hurdle in the Saar, gained one point and reached 19 percent for the first time since August 2021.
Scholz loses 15 percent in the survey - Habeck and Baerbock remain high
According to the survey published on Tuesday by the opinion research institute forsa on behalf of RTL Germany, the FDP is at 8 percent (-1) and is now behind the AfD, which is unchanged at 9 percent.
The left also loses a point and falls to 4 percent.
The popularity of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has declined significantly - only 45 percent of those surveyed are currently satisfied with his work, while at the beginning of March it was 60 percent.
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck (both Greens) each have the same high values: 58 percent and 53 percent are satisfied with their work.
Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) came up with a relatively weak value of 28 percent satisfied respondents.
Outlook: What are the next elections in Germany?
In another survey, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) was also punished.
Although there were federal elections only last year, some important elections will also take place in Germany in 2022:
March 27
: State elections in Saarland (SPD wins)
May 8
: State elections in Schleswig-Holstein
May 15
: State elections in North Rhine-Westphalia
9 October
: State elections in Lower Saxony
The current popularity polls are important indicators for these elections.
Because they show how the citizens of Germany think about current politics.
The regularity of the surveys enables a very specific evaluation of the parties and politicians.
Scholz, for example: The newly elected chancellor was still very popular after the first few weeks of his term –
60 percent at the beginning of March – these have now plummeted.
A connection with the Ukraine conflict and the associated price increases for coal, oil and gas is obvious.
Annalena Baerbock, on the other hand, seems to be doing well as foreign minister from the German perspective.
