Meeting despite restrictions: From November, the sponsoring association offered a campfire at the youth centers every day so that no one had to be locked out.

2021 was a challenging but good year for the youth and social work association (TVJA) in Geretsried.

A review.

Geretsried - Closed youth centers and short-time work: Kerstin Halba, Chairwoman of the Association for Youth and Social Work (TVJA), could never have imagined these two things.

But that's how it happened.

"2021 was a challenging year in many areas," said TVJA Managing Director Rudi Mühlhans at the presentation of the annual report, "and it was also a very good year in many areas."

The consequences of the corona pandemic are worrying

Despite the corona-related closure, an attempt was made to be accessible to children and young people in the city and to reopen the youth centers under “reasonable conditions”, Mühlhans looked back.

The Benediktbeurer is certain that this has helped to relieve the burden on parents and children.

But according to Halba, the consequences of the pandemic, which has been going on for more than two years, are worrying.

"In all areas we are increasingly noticing mental imbalances that need to be accompanied, as well as a need for development in social interaction and in finding one's identity," added the chairperson.

Unexpected end of the German class

The past year brought some changes for the association.

At the middle school there was a German class run in close cooperation with the TVJA and supported by the European Social Fund.

As reported, this class expired in July due to a lack of registrations.

This unexpected end required personnel changes.

But thanks to the flexibility of the now 36 employees, "the management could finally be reorganized so that our association is fit for the future," says Halba.

Mühlhans now has a deputy in Angela Heim.

A new chapter opened with school support

With school support, the TVJA has had a new field of activity since the beginning of the school year.

Six women and men look after children with physical, mental and social-emotional disabilities at school.

The girls and boys should be able to develop optimally in the social structure of a class.

Mühlhans was pleased to be able to recruit "such motivated and committed employees" for this area.

With Olga Kalakina and Katharina Mayer there are also two young women who are doing a voluntary social year (FSJ) at the TVJA.

Luciana Gómez ended the FSJ in December for personal reasons.

Hartwig Siebold has also resigned.

For four years he took care of the bicycle workshop on a voluntary basis.

"At the age of 77, it's enough now," said Mühlhans.

With regard to campaigns and events in the past year, the managing director said: "We have made possible what was reasonable." This also included the cross-generational encounter festivals at Neuer Platz and Johannisplatz in Geretsried.

"You really noticed how starved the people were."

Visit children and young people with games in squares

In May, the TVJA would like to start with a low-threshold offer.

When the weather is nice, the team wants to play a series of games at Neuer Platz, Johannisplatz and Karl-Lederer-Platz and see how children and young people react.

40-year celebration is to be made up for in September

Mühlhans announced that the 40-year celebration is to be made up for in September.

"It won't be a navel gazing." Rather, they want to deal with the issues of the time and the future.
