A gunman shot and wounded two women and a police officer in Philadelphia,
then took his own life after a more than hour-long standoff with
the city's special tactics SWAT teams.
Officers patrolling a Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood heard multiple shots near the intersection of Arrot and Leiper streets around 7:00 pm ET.
They found a man armed with a gun and chased him to a nearby apartment building where he barricaded himself, according to police.

At the same time, they found a 57-year-old woman and a 42-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to the hip.
Both were taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Philadelphia Police SWAT teams surrounded the two-story building and exchanged fire with the suspect.

One of the officers was shot in the abdomen.

Authorities entered the building shortly after 8:00 pm and found the suspect's body.
Police believe he died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
They have not yet revealed his identity or the reason for his attack.
