The G7 Summit 2022 will take place again from June 26th to 28th at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps.

Elmau - "Progress for a just world" is the goal of this year's G7 summit.

The meeting takes place once a year.

At the beginning of the new year, Germany took over the presidency of the G7 - and is thus hosting the summit of the heads of state and government.

As in 2015, the meeting will again take place at Schloss Elmau in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Because Elmau meets "all the logistical and security requirements of a G7 summit location," as the new government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit explained in Berlin - nevertheless: A challenge for the district. 

At the G7 summit in 2022, there will again be a lot of police on duty around Schloss Elmau.

The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior estimates that the organization will cost more than 166 million euros this year.

Around 147 million euros are earmarked for the police and security concept.

Security measures at the G7 summit 2022: Stricter access control around Schloss Elmau

According to the Ministry of the Interior, there will be stricter access controls, especially in the vicinity of Schloss Elmau, which is important for protecting the summit participants.

However, the special controls should be limited to a close local and temporal context.

There should therefore only be restrictions in the immediate areas around the conference venue.

Outside of the security areas, you don't have to worry about it.

On the official Instagram page for the G7 summit, Chancellor Olaf Scholz explains the priorities that are to be dealt with at this year's G7 summit.

Accordingly, the security measures should only slightly interfere with traffic.

However, the Ministry of the Interior explains that there could also be restrictions at the national transport hubs.

This is due to the derivation or diversion measures during the summit meeting.

Information on possible detour routes should be announced in good time.

The students in the district could also be affected by the measures.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: security measures for demonstrations and gatherings

Possible demonstrations must also be included in the security concept: there were numerous protests at the 2015 summit.

According to the police, 3,600 opponents of the summit marched through Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the Saturday of the summit.

Demonstrations are expected again this year.

The Ministry of the Interior explains that the security authorities have a detailed view of attempts to mobilize “violent and security-endangering, anti-democratic efforts”.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the right to demonstrate will not be restricted under any circumstances, peaceful demonstrations should take place without any problems.

In June, the G7 summit is to take place again in Elmau.

How high the deployment of police forces will be this year cannot yet be said.

In 2015 there were at times more than 18,000 officials on duty for the G7 summit in Elmau and the surrounding area.

The plans bring back bad memories for the locals.

In order to be able to take appropriate security precautions, a precise analysis and assessment of the security situation is necessary, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
