Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and members of the right-wing faction decided today (Thursday): MK Amichai Shikli will be declared retired.
"During the winter session, MK Shikli began voting time and time again against the faction's position, including in a vote on the Citizenship Law declared by the opposition as a vote of no confidence in the government," the right-wing faction said.
"In his vote against the Citizenship Law, MK Shikli knowingly harmed the security of the State of Israel and the Zionist values of the State of Israel, as a deliberate opposition action, against the government and against the right-wing faction."
What exactly is a retiring MK?
This is a split of a single MK or several MKs from a faction.
The splits are defined as retirees, and are subject to very severe sanctions: they will not be able to serve as ministers or deputy ministers in the current Knesset, run in the next election with a party represented in the current Knesset, and will not be able to form a new faction or join an existing faction.
At the same time, retirees will be able to take on all parliamentary positions according to Knesset regulations - including tenure in committees and even as chairmen - except for submitting a motion of no confidence.
