The Service for the Attention of Persons Deprived of Liberty of Ecuador (SNAI) reported this Wednesday that an "act of violence" was recorded against a prison security agent who was in the central offices of the institution in Quito.

The agent was working together with other SNAI officials when the attack occurred, which caused the activation of security protocols and a contingency plan to evacuate staff from the offices.

The SNAI indicated that it is working on an investigation into the case and that it sympathizes with the family of the agent who is hospitalized with a reserved prognosis, according to the Corps of Penitentiary Agents.

This fact occurs in the midst of a new prison crisis in Ecuador registered since last Sunday after the revolt in the Turi prison, in the south of the country, which left 20 inmates murdered, and alterations to order in four prisons in the country this Tuesday.
