The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Moscow imposed personal sanctions on 358 senior officials and parliamentarians in Australia and New Zealand, including the two prime ministers, according to the principle of reciprocity.
"Moscow has imposed sanctions on 228 senior Australian officials and parliamentarians, including Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and has imposed personal sanctions on 130 representatives of New Zealand's high leadership and parliamentarians, including Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern," the TASS news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today.
The statement added that "Moscow will soon expand the list of sanctions by including Australian and New Zealand military, businessmen, experts and media professionals."
The Russian decision on the principle of reciprocity comes in response to the expansion of the list of sanctions imposed by Australia on Russia against the backdrop of its special military operation to protect Donbass, which included nearly 600 individuals and entities, as well as the imposition of personal sanctions by the New Zealand government on Russian officials and companies.
