At Easter, many people are drawn south – the ADAC expects numerous traffic jams on Bavarian motorways at the start of the holiday season.

Munich – Over Easter it gets crowded on Bavaria's autobahns.

Many people are moving south again this year, with Austria and Italy in particular being popular travel destinations this year.

Next Monday, April 11th, the Easter holidays start in Bavaria - the ADAC expects long traffic jams.

Easter: traffic jams due to holiday traffic on the following motorways

In addition to Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia will also have school holidays from Monday, April 11th.

In Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, the schools are already closed this week.

Many are already heading south this weekend.

Popular destinations this year are Italy and Austria, but also the local recreation areas in Upper Bavaria.

This causes traffic jams around Munich.

The ADAC expects peak traffic on Friday, April 8 between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

ADAC: These are the southern Bavarian traffic jams:

  • A7 Ulm – Füssen/ Reutte

  • A8 Munich – Salzburg

  • A9 Nuremberg – Munich

  • A 93 Inntal triangle – Kufstein

  • A 95/B2 Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen

  • A 99 east bypass Munich

Holiday: Danger of traffic jams even on the long Easter weekend

Even on the long Easter weekend, April 14th to 18th, Bavaria's roads will be crowded.

A look at the ADAC traffic jam statistics shows that the most traffic jams occur on Maundy Thursday.

Good Friday is in second place.

The Automobile Club does not expect things to relax again until Easter Saturday and Sunday – before the return journey starts again on Easter Monday.
