A new suspect was arrested on Friday April 8 and placed in police custody in the investigation into the fire which killed eight people in February in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque (Pyrénées-Orientales), after three arrests the day before, we learned from the Perpignan prosecutor.

An Algerian who was one of the three people arrested on Thursday was exonerated and released, Jean-David Cavaillé, the public prosecutor of Perpignan, told AFP.
In total, a 43-year-old Tunisian, owner of a grocery store located on the ground floor of the burned-out block of buildings, a 27-year-old Algerian injured during the fire and hospitalized since in Montpellier, and another Tunisian whose unknown age, are in custody for "
damage by fire resulting in death and injury

Eight people, including a baby and a two-year-old child belonging to the same family, died in the fire that occurred during the night of February 13 to 14 in this town of 10,000 inhabitants near Perpignan.
Was the fire caused by the explosion of gas cylinders that were in the street?
Was it declared in a commercial premises on the ground floor or in one of the apartments?
The Perpignan prosecutor will present the results of the investigation at a press conference on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
More than 30 tons of rubble were extracted from the three burned buildings for analysis.
