Former US President Donald Trump's company has won a lawsuit against New York City over terminating a golf course contract after its supporters stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The lawsuit, filed last June, says the contract was improperly terminated by the administration of then-New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio.
The Trump Organization has managed the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Bronx, New York, since it opened in 2015. In terminating the contract, the city said Trump played a role in inciting the riots and those actions determined the eligibility of the golf course's ability to attract "premium professional golf championships."
In the New York State Supreme Court's decision, Judge Debra James ruled that the contract did not include an obligation on the golf course operator to attract professional golf tournaments.
James thus overturned a first instance judgment in which the termination of the contract was found to be lawful.
A spokesman for the New York City legal department said, "We are disappointed with the court's decision and are evaluating our legal options."
The Trump Organization, which operates residences, hotels and golf courses around the world, thanked the court for its "well-reasoned decision based on law and fact" and said it was "thrilled" to continue operating and managing Ferry Point.
Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021, interrupting the US Congress' formal certification of President Joe Biden's election victory.
The storming came after Trump delivered an incendiary speech to his supporters in which he repeated false claims about a stolen election.
The case is separate from the New York Attorney General's civil investigation and a parallel Manhattan Attorney General's office criminal investigation into Trump's business practices.
Both investigations focus on whether the company misrepresented the values of its properties in order to obtain cheap credit and tax deductions.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing and described the investigation as politically motivated.
