Is the corona incidence in Bavaria higher than expected or not?

Experts believe that a large number of cases are no longer recorded at all.

Munich – The corona incidence is also falling in Bavaria.

On Friday, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a value of 1383.2.

On Thursday it was still at 1514.5 - a significant drop.

However, experts have been assuming for some time that numerous cases are no longer recorded at all - because the health authorities are overloaded and not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only an infection detected by a PCR test counts in the statistics.

So is the incidence falling because less testing is being done?

The number of laboratory tests for Bavaria can be called up on a daily basis from the State Office for Health and Food Safety.

However, when interpreting the data, it should be noted that the numbers for the two previous weeks can still change due to late reports, explains a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health on

demand.

In addition, the number of positive tests would not correspond to the number of cases in Bavaria, since on the one hand samples from Bavaria would also be examined in other federal states and on the other hand samples from other federal states would also be examined in Bavaria.

According to the spokeswoman, what is shown is that the incidence is currently falling across all age groups, including among young people who are currently still being systematically tested at school.

"This indicates that the infection pressure in the population is actually decreasing."

Despite the fact that the numbers are still high, “increased personal responsibility on the part of citizens” is to be welcomed in the current phase of the pandemic.

However, vulnerable groups would still need special protection.
