The Walchensee is a popular excursion and holiday destination.

In the future, a parking space sensor system will direct the flow of visitors.

With a parking space sensor system, the municipality of Kochel wants to better direct the flow of visitors to Walchensee.

The municipal council discussed the sensible implementation and decided on the procurement.

Kochel am See – The establishment of a parking guidance system is one of the goals in the extensive Walchensee concept.

As part of the "Bavarian Tourism Package", the "Visitor flow control" funding module is now available, Mayor Thomas Holz (CSU) reported on Monday in the municipal council.

Collection of real-time data: Visitors can find out if the region is crowded

The subject of the funding are measures for the collection, processing and provision of "touristically relevant real-time occupancy data" in the area of parking lots and tourist attractions.

Users should then be able to find out on the Internet whether a region is overcrowded and where there are still parking spaces.

For reasons of time and money: Only record the parking spaces that are representative for the entire Walchensee region

However, due to time and cost reasons, not all car parks can be recorded.

That's why they concentrated on those parking lots where events that are representative of the entire Walchensee region can be depicted, says Holz.

The car park in Einsiedl (P37), the car park at the Surferwiese (it is run privately), the car park at the Herzogstandbahn (operated by the railway) and the spaces at Kesselberg Passhöhe-Süd 2 (P25) and Passhöhe- North (P23).

At the first four, entrance and exit measurements are to be carried out using cameras, at the Passhöhe-Nord using the parking ticket machines with an online connection.

The total costs are just under 68,000 euros, but there is a subsidy of almost 50,000 euros, leaving the community with an own contribution of almost 19,000 euros.

"We don't want to upset anyone, we want to direct the visitors" - preferably to start this year

"We don't want to upset anyone, we want to direct the visitors," said Holz.

In essence, it is about collecting data so that the day tripper can see what it will be like at Walchensee when planning the day or get a forecast in advance.

The starting signal for the project should preferably be this year, said Holz when asked by our newspaper.

The work is put out to tender and then contracts are concluded.

Ultimately, the start also depends on the availability of the companies, says Holz.

Which portal will be used online is currently being clarified.

Rosi Marksteiner (Die Mitte) wanted to know whether Jachenau was also introducing such a sensor system.

He passed it on, said Holz, but couldn't say how far along the neighbors were from here.

Project is designed for online use

The project is designed for online use.

According to Holz, it is still unclear whether there will be additional warning signs due to overloading in the near future.

A warning sign is currently being activated in cooperation with the police on the motorway.

Their effect is “but not the greatest,” said Holz.

"The people are already on their way."

Maybe more signs on the Autobahn?

With regard to the planned parking sensors, Reinhard Dollriess (FW) from Walchensee spoke of "a great system": "But the customer must also be aware of it." In addition, Dollriess continued, one could not do without a sign on the motorway.

He could imagine even more signs there.

His parliamentary colleague Frank Sommerschuh made a similar statement.

But more signs on the Autobahn, especially a parking guidance system, will hardly be possible there, said Holz.

Klaus Barthel (SPD) expressed general doubts about the project.

"I don't know if people use the app." Ultimately, the municipal councilors voted in favor of the introduction, with Barthel dissenting.
