Thousands of environmentalists from Extinction Rebellion demonstrated in London today as part of a campaign to force the British government to end its dependence on fossil fuels.
And the Reuters news agency quoted British police as saying that "the protesters closed the Tower Bridge, a gateway on the River Thames, to traffic for several hours."
Extinction Rebellion said two protesters set off flares and hung a large banner to force the government to end its dependence on fossil fuels.
The company (XR) and other environmental groups have organized daily protests at oil facilities in London and elsewhere in Britain since last Friday and pledged to hold more protests in the capital London next week, calling on the British government to fully commit to ending all new infrastructure for fossil fuels immediately.
In August last year, thousands of environmental advocates from the Extinction Rebellion group in London launched two-week demonstrations calling on governments to act urgently to combat climate change.
