As usual, the cooperation stemming from love.. The people of Salim town in the countryside of As-Suwayda met with an initiative called “Pencil” with the aim of supporting the education of the townspeople and alleviating the burden on poor families amid the difficult economic conditions imposed by the war conditions on Syria.

In statements to SANA’s reporter, one of the founders of the initiative, Ziad Al-Abdullah, explained that it was launched with the combined efforts of the people of Salim in 2017 to provide assistance to all students and students of basic education in its “first and second” cycles, and it is still continuing to provide school needs and to hold free courses for certificate students before final exams and computer driving courses for college students and help in securing heating fuel for students during courses.

Al-Abdullah pointed out that the initiative reflects the state of solidarity among community members and depends on the donations of the people in general and the town's expatriates in particular. Its work is organized by a group of volunteers, and annually about 600 students benefit from it.

Al-Abdullah indicated that the initiative worked during the last period to provide a variety of books to the social center “Our Word is Young Adults” in the town of Salim to enrich the library in it. It also worked, in cooperation with the charitable association in the town, to transfer all middle and high school students to As-Suwayda schools back and forth for free.

The director of the Martyr Bassel Zain al-Din School in the town of Salim Nibras Masoud noted the positive impact of the initiative among students and their families, which requires the need to encourage and continue such initiatives as their contribution to alleviating the financial burdens on the citizens, noting that the initiative annually distributes notebooks and pens to all school students in addition to There are also two schools in the town. Last year, they organized a free English speaking course to strengthen sixth and seventh graders.

The former mayor, Segea Azgoul, pointed out that the “Pencil” initiative reflects the extent of keenness to support the students’ segment and help them in their educational attainment, emphasizing the importance of science as a weapon in facing all challenges and difficult circumstances.
