The bathing season opened yesterday (Friday) on the shores of Israel, the national resource for tourism and popular recreation, frequented by millions of residents and tourists of all ages.

The bathing season opened with the departure of the students for the Passover holiday to allow the public and Israeli children in particular to bathe safely on declared bathing beaches and during rescue hours, with the onset of spring and changing weather.

The end of the bathing season ends each year according to the Hebrew calendar, and this year - on October 24.

The length of the shores of the Mediterranean in Israel is about 197 km, most of them are within the boundaries of 22 local authorities. About 30 km of them are under the responsibility of the Nature and National Parks Authority and about 20 km under the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense. In the Mediterranean, 31 in the Sea of Galilee, 16 in the Dead Sea and four beaches in the Red Sea.As in recent years, this season too, Israeli residents will enjoy the declared beaches, which are a public resource, free of charge.

Atef Hiraldin, director of the beaches department at the Ministry of the Interior, promised that throughout the season the ministry would conduct inspections to examine the management of the beaches by the local authorities.

The findings of the inspections will be forwarded by the District Bathing Supervisor to the Coastal Administrators for further treatment and correction of the deficiencies. It is the responsibility of the local authority to correct the deficiencies and update the District Bathing Supervisor in writing.

Tel Aviv-Yafo has about 13 beaches that stretch 13.5 km from the Herzliya border in the north to the Bat-Yam border in the south, which serve the city's residents and those who come through its gates. 25,000 vacationers on average every day. During the entire bathing season, an average of eight and a half million bathers bathe. In

Haifa, about 17 km of beaches, including about 2.8 km of declared and regulated beaches, along which rescue stations are located. Rescue stations on the

beaches

of Neot, Bat Galim, Carmel, Zamir and Dado.

Are a risk and every year there are drowning and rescue incidents, accidents and many injuries.

Magen David Adom is ready and set for the season.

MDA medics and paramedics are deployed in coastal cities and stations near water sources with dual-propulsion (4X4) ambulances and special ATVs that have been specially adapted and equipped for MDA needs.

With the help of the special vehicles, which are equipped with red lights, a boat and special equipment that connects to the stretcher, it will be possible to shorten the arrival times in cases of drowning or injury at the beaches, and rescue the victim from the sandy beach area.

You will reach every point on the Sea of Galilee.

As part of MDA's assessments for the bathing season, the organization operates the first Sea-Bowles boat in the Sea of Galilee. The unique boat is able to reach any point on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, without mooring at the pier. MDA's sea-balance boat enables the provision of medical treatment in the water itself, including in cases of bruises and drownings.

Thanks to the efficiency and speed of the boat, critical minutes are saved, compared to cases where the victim receives medical treatment only on arrival at the beach.

Data collected during the season show that about 90% of drownings occurred in the absence of a lifeguard, on a beach where bathing is prohibited or after the end of rescue services, as well as following an intoxication in the sea.

In the previous bathing season, MDA medics and paramedics provided medical care to 248 people, including: 40 who drowned to death, seven in human condition who needed resuscitation, 11 in severe condition, 20 in moderate condition and 170 in mild condition. 126 of the drownings occurred at the beaches Middle, 22 on the shores of the Dead Sea, 13 on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, six in the Red Sea, ten in pools in B & Bs, 32 in public pools, 24 in private pools, 13 in reservoirs and streams and two cases in the Jordan River.

The Ministry of the Interior launched this week, with and during the season, an information campaign for safe bathing in the sea that will be broadcast in the media while adapting to different target audiences.

The information campaign sharpens the call to observe the rules of caution at sea and warns that one should not enter the sea without a lifeguard.

The Ministry of the Interior stated that in order to reduce drowning incidents, the requirements of the law, orders, regulations and procedures must be met.

Increasing supervision, enforcement, auditing, awareness and taking basic safety measures may minimize and prevent most accidents, drownings and lawsuits.

Ahead of the opening of the bathing season, the Government Society for the Protection of the Mediterranean Coastal Cliffs calls on the general public to act carefully and responsibly in the areas near the coastal cliff, due to the danger of rocks and sand collapsing onto the bathing beaches.

The company's CEO, Ilan Lavi, noted that during the blessed winter with heavy rains and storms this year, dozens of rock falls were recorded along the cliff's shores. In dangerous areas near the cliff and obey signs and instructions in the area.

In preparation for the start of the season, the Ministry of Environmental Protection published the data of the "Clean Beach" index for March, just before the start of the season.

83.3% of the undeclared open beaches measured in the index were rated as “clean” to “very clean”, compared to 67.7% in the previous index.

The cleanest coastal authorities, with a "very clean" score, are the Asher headquarters, Acre, Tirat Carmel, Netanya, Herzliya, Bat Yam, Ashdod, Eilat.

The dirtiest coastal authority is the Ashkelon Beach Regional Council, with an average score “dirty”.

The bathing season on the shores of Ashdod, the "very clean", will open with a unique pilot, as part of which no beach bins will be placed in the Tu beach area. This, in order to maintain an even cleaner marine environment and beach space for recreation. Dirt, among other things, due to the afternoon winds that throw garbage, snack bags and more on the sands or into the sea and damage fish and sea turtles. From their seat to the collection point that will be right at the back of the beach.

25,000 vacationers on average each day.

Ashdod currently has seven beaches that stretch over 10.5 km. The Coastal Division is aware that this is a great challenge, and has invested many resources over the years in maintaining the cleanliness of the beaches. The blue - an international environmental mark of quality.

On the 14 shores of the Sea of Galilee, the season officially opens today, after the beach village of Ein Gev preceded and opened the season last Friday. Only 35 cm are missing for a full Sea of Galilee.

Hagai Peleg, director of the Ein Gev Beach Village Rescue Station, congratulated the opening of the bathing season and the rise in the level of the Sea of Galilee and wished all vacationers a safe bathing season.

The Bathroom Regulation Law stipulates that the local authorities within whose boundaries beaches are located must establish facilities such as rescue stations, first aid stations and sanitary facilities on the declared beaches and employ lifeguards, inspectors and first aid providers.

In 2003, the Ministry of the Interior stopped assisting local authorities extensively in financing beach maintenance, and since then it has been assisting them mainly in financing beach development and infrastructure renewal.

Although due to lack of revenue due to the cancellation of the entrance fee to the beaches the maintenance and development costs of the beaches falling on the authorities are extremely high, the Interior Ministry says it is struggling to increase the budget transferred to the beach authorities for operating and maintaining beaches.

However, following an agreement between the Ministries of the Interior and Finance, this budget is still a "drop in the ocean", and has increased to only NIS 14.5 million, which will be distributed according to pre-determined criteria that take into account weakened and peripheral authorities, along the coastline.

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked promised this morning that she will continue to work to increase budget assistance to the coastal authorities, and will work to establish ten new bathing beaches that will alleviate the overcrowding and reduce the number of drownings on undeclared beaches.

Shaked called on all bathers "Pay attention, do not swim on the beach without a lifeguard, save your life and the lives of your relatives", and wish them "a fun and safe bathing season".
