Berlin – The nationwide 7-day incidence continues to decline: the value is now 1097.9, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Sunday morning.

For comparison: the day before the value was 1141.8.

A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1457.9.

55,471 new corona infections were recorded within one day (previous week: 74,053 new corona infections).

In addition, 36 deaths related to Corona were reported.

However, the corona numbers should be treated with caution.

comparisons become increasingly difficult.

According to experts, the number of unreported infections is currently significantly higher.

According to the dpa news agency, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony and Brandenburg did not report at all or not completely at the weekend.

Health authorities are currently overloaded - many corona cases are simply not recorded.

But according to the RKI, the peak of the fifth omicron wave has passed.

Even if the corona numbers are incomplete, the RKI writes in its current weekly report: "The peak of the current wave has now clearly been exceeded." Despite this decrease, the infection pressure remained "with more than 1 million transmitted to the RKI within a week Covid19 cases remain very high".

Especially in the younger age groups between 0 and 24 years, the incidence has fallen by 20 percent compared to the previous week.

7-day incidence by age group - according to RKI (data status: April 8, 2022)

  • Age group 0 to 4 years - 894.6

  • Age group 5 to 14 years - 1,612.7

  • Age group over 80 years - 564.1

In the current fifth omicron wave, the number of severe courses of the disease, with a high number of infections at the same time, is significantly lower, can be read in the RKI weekly report.

In the hospitals, the load on the normal wards and in the intensive care units is still high because medical staff are also absent due to quarantine or illnesses due to infection.

The proportion of the omicron subline BA.2 has now risen to almost 90 percent, the RKI announced in its most recent weekly report on Thursday evening (April 7th).

According to the RKI, the further course of the corona pandemic depends on “whether larger parts of the population continue to behave prudently and considerately even if government-ordered measures are reduced or to what extent possible contacts relevant to infection increase.”

The RKI recommends that people with symptoms of an acute respiratory infection such as a runny nose, sore throat or cough should stay at home regardless of their vaccination status and contact a general practitioner if necessary.

Fully vaccinated and boosted people suffer from a corona infection with the omicron variant for a significantly shorter time than with Delta.

This is the result of a recent British study.
