The municipality of Egling is doing a lot to advance the energy transition.

Plans for a village heating system in the district of Ergertshausen are now becoming concrete.

Egling

– The Oberrieders have had a wood chip heating system at home for 15 years.

Florian Oberrieder (27) gets the raw material.

"For me as a forest farmer, that's not a problem, we have more than enough," he says.

Now he is supporting the plan to expand the wood chip heating to a village heating system together with the municipality of Egling and the Oberland energy transition.

The location of the farm is strategically favorable for the project: it is in the center of the village, behind the fire station.

In addition, the Eglinger district is well suited because of its compact development.

Because of the Ukraine war, many people are rethinking

An information evening was recently held in the Schützenheim.

70 Ergertshausers came - that is, a large part of the residents.

Andreas Scharli from the Oberland energy transition also explains the great interest that, under the impression of the Ukraine war, many people want to get away from fossil fuels such as oil and gas as quickly as possible, especially from Russia.

"The current situation has certainly had a big impact," he says.

It was also Scharli who presented the project.

Telekom is laying pipes anyway

From a technical point of view, lines have to be laid at a depth of one meter.

These are plastic pipes surrounded by insulation, which is itself wrapped in waterproof plastic.

The advantage is that Telekom will soon be laying pipes for high-speed Internet.

"That would be a synergy effect," says the expert.

You could work together.

Oil heating still dominates in Egling

At the moment, oil heating systems dominate in Ergertshausen.

The simple reason: there is no gas line in Egling, like in many other rural communities.

The local heat would make the oil and the oil tank superfluous.

This means that everyone who takes part would win a room.

"That may not be decisive in monetary terms, but it's a good argument," says Scharli.

Speaking of money: the state is currently promoting investments with 45 percent.

Of course, it is important for profitability that there are enough potential consumers.

So far there are 35, that should just be enough.

It is currently difficult to assess whether the wood chips will become cheaper than oil.

If the price of oil stays high or even rises, it will be profitable.

Before you can get to work, there are still a few steps to be taken.

First, preliminary contracts are signed, then it comes to the financing and finally to the detailed planning.

But that won't last forever.

"If everything goes well, we can start distributing the heat next year," says Scharli.

Most of the questions at the information evening were aimed at security of supply.

"What do we do when Florian meets a beautiful Mexican woman?" asked a neighbor who laughed a lot.

The answer is relatively simple: if the worst comes to the worst, the municipality will take care of the boiler.

The current generation of boilers is also absolutely reliable, error messages are sent as SMS to the operator's mobile phone.

The municipality of Egling, which has long championed the energy transition, supports the project to the best of its ability.

"I hope that after the information evening a few people from Ergertshauser will reflect and join in," says Mayor Hubert Oberhauser.

Hans Spindler, the municipality's energy transition officer, reminds us that the government will no longer be able to install new oil-fired heating systems after 2026.

The village heating is in every respect a "great opportunity for Ergertshausen".
