The Chinese luxury brand Hongchi began its operations in Israel with a huge recreational vehicle and a super-equipped one with a price starting at NIS 400,000.

Quite a few Chinese car brands have landed (and more will land soon) in Israel in the past year as part of the electric revolution going through the car market.

Last week another Chinese brand started its local activity, but a bit unusual from what we are used to getting so far from the People's Republic.

Meet Honqi, the luxury brand of car maker FAW which is the second largest in China.

Hongchi, which means "red flag", was established somewhere in 1958 and was responsible for the production of the official cars of China's leaders for generations.

About five years ago, the brand reinvented itself in order to challenge German luxury brands with a modern model line and beyond electric propulsion.

Meanwhile in the Chinese market it is working quite well, with Hongchi in fourth place in terms of sales after the three German ones.

Outside China Hongchi is taking its first steps this year, and Israel is the second export market it reaches after Norway.

Hongchi Ali is imported to Israel by the Sergeant Group, which initially chose to introduce the brand to the local consciousness with its most senior and impressive model called the E-HS9.

This is a huge recreational vehicle with a length of 521 cm, a wheelbase of 311 cm and a width of 2 meters.

Beyond its size, the presence of the E-HS9 is enhanced by the design which includes an extroverted grille reminiscent of Rolls-Royce models and not by chance, as Hongchi's chief designer was also responsible for the Rolls-Royce Cullinan design.

The Hongchi E-HS9 is offered in two propulsion configurations, both with two electric motors and dual propulsion.

The standard version offers a combined power of 435 hp that allows acceleration to 100 in 6.5 seconds, while an 84 kilowatt battery should provide a driving range of 380 km (according to WLTP standard).

The senior version already has 551 hp, which shortens the jump to 100 to 4.9 seconds, and an enlarged 99 kilowatt battery that increases the driving range to 441 km.

The price starts at NIS 400,000 for the standard propulsion version in a 7-seater configuration and reaches up to half a million NIS for the senior version with the powerful engine and 6-seater configuration.

In keeping with the prestigious pretense, the instrumentation list is particularly impressive.
