First toilet paper, then flour and oil;

now the heat pump is enjoying growing popularity.

Installers in the Würmtal are noticing a significantly increased demand.

Würmtal

– "In winter things really get going," says Patrick Kohl, master heating engineer at Six Haustechnik in Martinsried.

"Then comes the great chaos." Whenever winter is just around the corner, the demand for new heating systems increases.

But this time he noticed in the spring that more and more people were calling him and inquiring about heat pumps.

Moving away from fossil fuels

Since the war in the Ukraine, numerous people from Würmtal have been thinking about how they can turn their backs on fossil fuels from Russia.

In the Würmtal regional plant, more and more customers are asking for photovoltaic solutions and heating concepts.

The need for advice is increasing.

In addition to natural gas, the regional plant also offers green gas.

In the past, customers often shied away from the additional price for green gas, says Lena Gredler, assistant to the management.

The regional plant is now taking on many new customers.

Master heating engineer Kohl says that in the past two customers a year were interested in a heat pump, but now there is one request every day.

Elias Ott from the master workshop of the same name in Planegg reports a similar rate of increase.

“They all want heat pumps.

It's going to be difficult to serve all of that." Ott says: "It's like buying hamsters." The inquiries that reach him don't just come from the Würmtal.

"Before the weekend I even had one from Anzing, near Markt-Schwaben." The problem is that toilet paper is produced quickly, heat pumps were already in short supply before the Ukraine war.

The delivery times are correspondingly long.

Alexander Heimrath from Heimrath Heating & Sanitary in Neuried confirms the popularity of the heat pump, but has not noticed any increased demand since the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

But: “Some have justified their interest with it.” Oil heating systems have not been in demand for a long time, but gas boilers are.

Not suitable for every home

According to the experts, heat pumps are not suitable for every house.

"Anyone who has gas in the old building stays with it," explains Ouacim Rahmouni from R&S Heating Sanitary Air Conditioning in Graefelfing.

In the old building, the installation of a heat pump is not possible without great technical effort.

Older buildings usually have radiators and leaky windows.

"A heat pump is out of place there, it only creates low temperatures." On the other hand, if you are planning a new building, the installation of a heat pump is an option.

Ott explains that due to the low flow temperature, a heat pump makes sense with surface heating, such as underfloor or wall heating.

Sometimes an extension to a hybrid system makes sense.

"The gas boiler then takes care of the peak load."

He would like to filter out the panic from the current discussion.

He will not expand or upgrade his own gas heating.

"It is the most difficult time to decide on a new heating system." The technology will be more advanced in ten years than it is now.

Basically, he also asks the question: "Where will all the electricity come from if everyone switches to a heat pump?"
