Scammers are always coming up with new tricks to get people's money.

Numerous fake warning letters are now ending up in German mailboxes.

Munich/Marburg – Fraudsters are known for their creativity.

With a mixture of seriousness and aggressiveness, they often try to manipulate innocent citizens and take money or valuables out of their pockets.

In this context, many have already heard of the grandchild trick or the fake policeman trick.

Now a new stitch seems to be doing the rounds.

Warning letter from Munich: Alleged law firm wants to collect lottery debts

With the latest rip-off, the fraudsters don't even get their hands dirty anymore.

No phone calls or uninvited guests at the door.

A simple letter is enough for them to get the money from the unsuspecting victims.

A professionally designed letter helps.

There is talk of a “pre-judicial warning”.

There is also a demand for a "Euro Lotto Central Euro Jackpot - 6/49".

The final touch of authenticity comes from the sender - "Schmidt and Colleagues", a law firm in Munich.

The amount of the alleged claim: 290 euros.

This is what the warning letter from the alleged Munich law firm looks like.

Apparently, such reminders were sent in series to households in central Hesse.

According to a press release from the central Hesse police headquarters in Marburg.

"According to the author, the service contract came about through a telephone registration and the provision of personal data," the report continues.

But according to the police, neither the specified lottery headquarters nor the law firm on Maximilianstrasse really exist.

Consumer centers warn against paying the reminder

The consumer advice center in Hesse and numerous other police departments throughout Germany also warn of the supposed warning letter.

However, it is not possible to contact the alleged creditor.

An attached letter of cancellation can only be submitted by fax or QR code.

The voicemail only goes to the phone number provided.

And one looks in vain for an e-mail address or website on the letter.

Anyone who wants to report by post also bites on granite.

No mail will be received at the address given on Maximilianstraße.

The letter threatened enforcement by bailiffs and seizure of the salary.

The consumer advice center in Hesse calls it horror scenarios.

"These are empty threats.

An attachment is not possible without a legally binding title such as an enforcement order or a court judgement," she explains.

She then warns urgently: "Those affected should therefore not be intimidated and under no circumstances should they pay the claim." For more information, you can contact the consumer centers or check on www.inkasso-check.de whether a debt collection claim is legal.
