It is now to be realized as part of the expansion of the federal highway.

The B 11 between Reindlschmiede and the Schönrain district of Königsdorf is being expanded.

The State Building Authority is including the cycle path, which has been requested by many, in the planning.

Heilbrunn's Mayor Gründl is pleased.

Bad Heilbrunn/Königsdorf –

Planning to expand a section of federal highway 11 has been underway for several years.

As already reported, the accident-prone route between Reindlschmiede (Bad Heilbrunn) and Schönrain is to be defused by flattening curves and straightening the road.

In the meantime, the plans for the renovation have become more concrete.

The cycle path, which is often suggested and requested, is to be implemented as part of the expansion.

Martin Herda, the responsible department head for the district of the Weilheim State Building Authority, explains: “The cycle path, which has been requested by many parties, should be explicitly included in the planning.”

B 11: Cycle path is now being planned

Bad Heilbrunn's Mayor Thomas Gründl (CSU) is relieved about this decision.

The municipality, which is directly affected by the expansion of the federal highway, has long advocated a cycle path next to the road.

"The cycle path was a central suggestion in the Bad Heilbrunn municipal council," says Gründl.

"It's very important to us, so I'm very happy." The mayor thinks that, especially now that climate change is playing a major role, there must be cycle paths so that citizens can get from A to B safely.

"I think the bike is the best way to save CO2."

The State Building Authority is currently in the middle of the planning approval process.

Within the framework of this procedure, municipalities or authorities, for example, can bring their objections to the approval process.

In the current year, the plans are to be modified in such a way that the wishes, demands and concerns that have been received can be taken into account as far as possible.

The plan is expected to be laid out again in autumn/winter 2022/2023.

"Those affected can then take another look and have another opportunity to express themselves," explains Herda.

The exact date for the expansion has not yet been set

According to the head of department, the planned cycle path will result in a significantly higher need for private land.

The State Building Authority therefore hopes that the property owners will continue to agree with the project and will make the necessary areas available for sale.

"It also remains to be seen whether, for example, there will be objections from the Lower Nature Conservation Authority, since we are sealing more space." Specifically, the cycle path will seal around 8,000 square meters of space.

The additional space required, calculated from a 2.50 meter dividing strip between the roadway and cycle path and a 2.50 meter wide cycle path and verge, amounts to around 13,000 square meters.

An exact date for the expansion of federal highway 11 has not yet been set.

The whole process will take some time.

"I don't expect construction to start before 2025," says Herda.

The state building authority in Weilheim currently estimates the cost of the renovation to be around eight million euros.
