I Tried Bee's Wrap Reusable Food Wraps and Here's What I Think

Each package contains three wraps that you can use for your food. Each one lasts a year and you can wash them with cold water.

Like many people, you may be trying to cut down on single-use products in your home, whether that means opting for zippered bags or swapping out your paper towels for reusable, machine-washable cloths.

The next product that can help make your kitchen even greener?

Bee's Wrap (

MX$ 364 or

$14.99), an organic, sustainable and reusable kitchen wrap that can store everything from fruits and vegetables to baked goods and leftovers.

With sustainability in mind, even Bee's Wrap packaging is recyclable and fully biodegradable.

But what we wanted to know is, do they work?

Can they replace foil wrap and other single-use plastic storage?

When you open the package, which includes three wraps, the texture is thick and feels a little rubbery, as there is a layer of beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin on the organic fabric the wraps are made from. wrappers.

They feel a bit like a reinforced fabric shopping bag mixed with heavy construction paper, and surprisingly, they're not stretchy at all.

So when you use the wraps, you actually want to warm them up with your hands and mold them around whatever you're protecting.

I first used the wrapper to cover a bowl of hard boiled eggs that I kept in the fridge.

Since the bowl was already cold, I had to use my hands to really heat the wrap to get it to adhere properly, but it only took a few seconds.

Next, I cut an apple in half and wanted to store the second half for a snack later, and used another bee wrapper to pack the apple half.

I unfolded the wrapper and placed the flat side of the apple into the wrapper;

then, using my hands, I wrapped and shaped the Bee's Wrap (

MX$ 364 or

$14.99) around the block, making it as airtight as possible.

The less air your leftovers are exposed to, the less they will degrade.

I also used them to top other fruits and vegetables.

Several hours later I needed a snack and pulled the wrapped apple out of my fridge.

For me, this was the real test, and Bee's Wrap passed.

My apple wasn't brown at all, and it tasted as crisp as the half I had for breakfast.

Wraps are best used for leftovers, fruit, vegetables, and cheese, but are not recommended for raw meat.

You may be wondering, if these wraps are reusable, how do you clean them?

Do they get dirty?

It's pretty simple: you just wash them by hand in cold water with a bit of dish soap.

I covered mine on an empty dish rack to dry, then folded it up and slid it into a drawer with the other two wrappers.

You don't want to use warm water or have your bee wraps anywhere near too hot, because the oil and wax will degrade.

Otherwise, they should last about a year, which is way better than throwing away the plastic wrap every day.

While I am new to bee wraps, I am sure they will replace many single-use plastic wraps and other disposable plastic storage in my everyday life.

I feel good about lessening my impact on the planet and honestly about the savings (a pack of single-use plastic wrap costs a lot more).

Saving the planet for a few dollars, who doesn't like that?
