On the left, Yannick Jadot is the candidate who has undoubtedly suffered the most from the "useful vote".

By collecting such a low score in the first round, 4.7% of the vote, he places his party, Europe Écologie-les Verts, in a critical financial situation.

Because candidates with a score below 5% are not reimbursed for their campaign costs.

On the Bellevilloise stage on Sunday evening, Yannick Jadot therefore launched an appeal for donations in order to provide ecology with “financial support to continue its essential fights”.

Then he slipped away quickly, leaving his activists to their bitter disappointment.

Yannick Jadot evokes a "confiscated campaign" and "the vital urgency" of the battle for the climate

With an estimated budget of around 6 million euros, never has a campaign by environmentalists cost so much.

The party must therefore find two million euros by the end of May, said Julien Bayou, this Monday on France Inter, before reiterating the call for financial support from the environmentalist party.

“The situation is critical, missing the 5% mark puts us in very, very great difficulty”, confided the national secretary of the party.

“Fortunately, we had lowered the sails and spent less than we had planned”.

But “immediately, we have a major deadline at the end of May and therefore we must find two million euros in the next five weeks.

We are addressing people who were able to support Yannick Jadot” but also “people who would have liked to vote Yannick Jadot and perhaps voted for another candidate.

We need this support to continue to support ecology, ”he pleaded.

Beyond "the immense disappointment", Julien Bayou returned to the reasons for the failure of the environmental candidate.

“There is necessarily a share of collective responsibility.

There is also the fact that this campaign was a non-campaign (…) there was no real debate project against project.

The "steamroller" that is the useful vote

According to him, Yannick Jadot was "a good candidate, he fought to the end", but he felt "a huge steamroller of the so-called useful vote which crumbled, collapsed, voting intentions for Yannick Jadot", while the LFI candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon placed third with more than 22% of the vote.

“There is first a membership vote.

But unquestionably, there has been a spectacular effect of useful voting in the last few days, ”confirms Brice Teinturier, director of the Ipsos polling institute, still on France Inter.

"We are paying for it today, deplores Julien Bayou, but it is an even greater concern to measure that the far right is at the gates of power in this country", added the secretary general, calling again to "do beat the far right” by “using (ant) the Macron bulletin” in the second round.

Voting Macron in the second round, however, "is not worth support, is not worth discharge", he warned.

According to him, the June legislative elections will constitute a “third round” which will allow “to send environmental deputies to the Assembly” to “avoid a five-year term of climate action again”.
