Because the Schongau winter market was no longer so well received, the advertising community wanted it to be relocated.
An alternative date was found.
Schongau – The city has laid down in a statute which markets take place in Schongau.
So far, four market Sundays have been anchored in it: A spring market on the second Sunday after Easter, a Trinity market on the first Sunday after Pentecost, an autumn market on the fourth Sunday in October and finally a winter market on the third Sunday in November.
Shops in the old town are allowed to open on these days.
But the latter date has recently weighed heavily on advertisers' stomachs.
"In recent years, it has been shown that the Sunday shopping in connection with the street food market in November was not so well received," the board of the advertising association put it in a letter to the city.
While the market is best in October, the winter market attracted the fewest customers to the shops, says Maria Mader from the advertising community when asked by the local newspaper.
The market last took place in November 2021.
At that time, of course, Corona also made it difficult for business people.
In fact, it has been considered for a long time that the Sunday open for sale should be postponed and combined with a fair.
By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.
Winter market was often canceled
Another problem was already known at an earlier meeting of the city council: If the winter market fell on a "silent day", such as the Sunday of the Dead or National Day of Mourning, it was not allowed to take place and was canceled without replacement in such cases.
The advertising association Altstadt Schongau has now applied for the Sunday shopping to be moved from November to September - the third Sunday of the month was proposed - in connection with a fair, since "at this time there are currently no markets in the surrounding communities", says Mader.
From the point of view of the administration, nothing would speak against a transfer, explained manager Bettina Schade.
There was no criticism or need for discussion on the part of the city councilors either.
The committee unanimously voted in favor of dropping the winter market and introducing an early autumn market instead.
The articles of incorporation have been amended accordingly.
So good news for the advertising community, which Mader is also happy about.
Shops are planning a fashion show
First, however, is the spring market, on the first of May.
For the Friday before, April 29, some members of the advertising community have planned a fashion show, says Mader.
The shops Jeanscafé, Sisters, Frauenzimmer, Tom Tailor, Eva Maurer Moden and the Unikateria present trends.
The event will also be used to collect donations for Ukraine.
