Six people were killed in a fire caused by an explosion at a chemical plant in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
Reuters quoted the local police as saying in a statement today: “The explosion occurred last night in a center for manufacturing units for chemicals and petrochemicals in the Om Organic factory, which is 230 km south of the commercial city of Ahmedabad in the state, and resulted in a fire that killed six people on the spot and caused significant material damage to the factory.” .
The police indicated that the firefighting teams were able to control the fire, while investigations are continuing to uncover the causes and circumstances of the explosion.
