Holy Week in Mexico began on April 10, with Palm Sunday, and ends on April 17, with Resurrection Sunday.

The holiday period for Easter in Mexico may vary depending on your professional or school situation.

For example, according to the 2021-2022 School Calendar of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), the Easter holidays begin on April 11 and end on the 22nd of the same month, while students at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM ) only have one week of vacation.

Other educational institutions have different calendars.

In terms of work, Holy Thursday and Friday, that is, April 14 and 15, are not considered official rest days, so offering the days as vacations is an individual decision of the company.

However, there are small exceptions, as is the case of Mexican banks.

And it is that the banks will remain closed on April 14 and 15, according to the calendar of the National Banking and Securities Commission of Mexico.

Branch procedures will not be available, but customers will be able to use the network of banking correspondents, ATMs and electronic banking.

Commercial and cultural activities

When it comes to shops, restaurants and cultural centers, these usually stay open during Easter.

However, we recommend that you check with the establishment of your interest to verify their opening hours, since they could be modified.

As for the activities available, the Government of Mexico City will make available a "cultural, sports and tourist offer" for residents and visitors, while the venues of the Ministry of Culture, such as the Museum of Mexico City and the Old College of San Ildefonso, will remain open.

The capital government estimates that the activities related to the Holy Week celebrations will offer an economic benefit of approximately 5,366 million Mexican pesos.
