The Haifa District Court today (Tuesday) sentenced Wiam Hassan, a 22-year-old man from Masjour, who was charged with the murder of Daniel Halabi Medalit al-Carmel, who was 18 years old, to nine years in prison.

However, during the trial, the prosecution withdrew from the charge, and as part of a controversial plea deal, an amended indictment was filed, in which the charge was converted from murder to manslaughter, despite Hassan's confession.

This, after the court accepted the defense attorney Adv. Basel Fallah's allegations of material failures in the police investigation, which he claimed led to the confession of evidence. .

Judge Yechiel Lifshitz noted that "the defendant killed the deceased following a trivial argument, on a minor matter of casual strife that led to a meeting during which a brawl ensued, there were beatings, while the defendant pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased three times in sensitive areas in the armpit and left chest." The plaintiff, Orly Naaman-Rosenthal of the Haifa District Attorney's Office, noted.

The murderous incident began on Saturday afternoon, May 25, 2019, in the local pool of Dalit El Carmel, after an argument developed between Daniel Halabi and Liam Hassan regarding a relationship with a girl from the locality who asked for dairy aid after she was allegedly harassed in the club pool complex.

Shortly afterwards, and after the two talked on the phone and exchanged text messages, they met on one of the village streets, where a large-scale brawl ensued during which they beat each other and Hassan stabbed Halabi three times.

Security cameras captured the incident remotely.

The Central Coast District Unit investigated the incident, initially Hassan denied what was attributed to him, then maintained the right to remain silent.

Eventually, as stated, during the trial he confessed, and even expressed remorse.

"Sorry for what I did and I apologize," Yam Hassan said in his last remarks to the judges, when only the deceased's family was present at his request, "My brother was murdered and I know what it is like to lose a family member. I wish I was dead and would not do such a thing. ".

In addition to the prison sentence, the judges sentenced Yam Hassan to a year and a half probation and compensation of NIS 150,000.

"The money does not interest us, it will not bring Daniel back," she told Judges Suha, Daniel's mother.

"Only if he brings Daniel back will we give up on him, and he can not do that then we will not give up on him. "The killer will pay for it, I want the whole world to pay for it, because my son is worth a world, my son is an angel, he is an angel murder, for no reason."

Admitted deeds.

"He murdered the whole family, all the relatives. We have not had a life since - he destroyed an entire house and an entire family. I ask for justice," the mother continued.

"Daniel Halabi was murdered for no reason and if he is - that's how they are encouraged to murder."

Daniel's father also responded, saying that "I lost not only Daniel, I lost an entire family."

"There is nothing more difficult and painful than losing a son, a beloved son, a young man whose whole future is ahead of him, a son who was a source of joy, contentment, and pride for his parents, his family and his entire environment," the plaintiff concluded.

"Daniel was an 18 year old young man in twelfth grade, he had plans and aspirations and dreams, he planned to enlist in the army and expected significant service, he had many plans for him and his family for the rest of his life and everything was cut short in the cruel act the defendant committed, he stabbed him."
