After a fire reduced their historic farm in Elbach to rubble and ash, the Bacher family slowly regained hope.

The willingness to donate is still great.

Elbach

– The Bacher family from Elbach is currently on the move in a whirlwind of emotions.

On the one hand there are the bad hours like the last time when the last remains of their burned down house were demolished.

"There was nothing left to save because everything was contaminated with extinguishing water," says Vroni Bacher (51).

However, this also includes joy about the many offers of support that her family receives from all sides.

"It really touches us a lot who thinks of us," says Vroni Bacher in an audibly moved voice.

Since the devastating fire on the night of March 19/20, she has been living with her husband Georg (54) with his relatives in the house next door.

Her 18-year-old son also stayed there.

Her 20-year-old daughter has moved in with friends who have also kept the Bachers' cows.

The eldest daughter (22), on the other hand, had already moved out, reports Vroni Bacher.

Many donations and plans for reconstruction

The fact that everyone has now found a good place to live gives the family a new perspective.

Thanks to numerous donations in kind, they now have the most essential things they need to live on, such as clothing.

Vouchers from local shops and, of course, the numerous monetary donations – one campaign alone via the Gofundme online portal brought in over 20,000 euros – help them to rebuild their households.

At the same time, the Bachers are trying to reconstruct in inventory lists for the insurance company everything that the flames took away from them.

And an architect was also on site, reports Vroni Bacher full of hope.

"We want to rebuild everything as quickly as possible." The municipality and district office promised unbureaucratic handling of the necessary formalities.

Bacher is already dreaming of hanging the few family photos that she was able to save from the flames back on the wall.

But the most important thing, emphasizes Bacher, hasn't taken away from her: "My homeland." She feels it "when I drive into Elbach".

And when she sees how many people share in her fate.

A bake sale

in aid of the Bacher family, who were badly hit by the fire on their farm in Elbach, will take place on Maundy Thursday, April 14, at the Miesbach weekly market at the foot of the Lebzelterberg.

Gmund hairdresser and deputy mayor Martina Ettstaller will be offering cakes and tarts baked by traditional costume wearers and farmers and will donate the entire proceeds to the Bachers.
