If you want to go on vacation in Europe, you have to show your Corona vaccination certificate or proof of recovery.

Various corona rules apply within the EU.

Munich – If you want to travel, you still need proof of your immunity status in many countries.

How long which vaccination is valid and when a traveler has to have his protection refreshed is therefore recorded in a vaccination certificate.

Every vaccinated person receives such a certificate - also digitally after a Covid infection or vaccination.

A commission of the European Union (EU) has determined how long this certificate is valid.

The deadlines therefore apply uniformly in all Member States as well as in Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

They can be issued and presented in any of these countries.

With this, the EU wants to facilitate the freedom of movement within the countries during the corona pandemic.

Corona: This applies to those who have been vaccinated twice and those who have also been boosted

Anyone who has received two doses of vaccine against the corona virus *, their immune status is valid for nine months - even when vacationing in other European countries.

After that, travelers in all EU countries are considered unvaccinated.

In addition to the medical advantage and better protection, a booster vaccination is also recommended for a very practical reason, the EU advises, according to

Focus online

.

For those who have also been boosted, their immune status has so far been valid without time restrictions - even when vacationing in other European countries.

Because unlike the double vaccination, the booster vaccination does not expire for the time being according to current EU rules.

"Certificates for booster vaccinations have no maximum period of validity," the online portal continues to quote the EU regulation.

However, the Commission reserves the right to introduce a minimum term at some point based on scientific findings.

In addition, the Standing Vaccination Committee (Stiko) recommends that all risk groups receive a second booster after the first booster vaccination.

These include people over the age of 70 on the one hand, residents and employees of care facilities and medical staff on the other.

So far, however, the fourth vaccination has not been relevant for entry into other European countries.

The vaccination status of recovered people is valid for six months.

This also applies to holidays in other European countries.

Corona: What evidence travelers need in the holiday countries

The holiday countries themselves decide which documents travelers need to take with them. Here is an overview of the most popular travel destinations:

  • Italy:

Online registration is required before entry, according to Focus Online.

In addition, proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test (PCR test not older than 72 hours, rapid test not older than 48 hours) is required.

Without proof, a quarantine of five days is planned.

Children under the age of six do not need to show proof.

  • Spain:

Holidaymakers no longer have to pre-register on the Spain Travel Health Portal website if they can show an EU vaccination certificate.

Unvaccinated people must show evidence of testing or recovery.

A PCR test must not be older than 48 hours, an antigen test must not be older than 24 hours.

  • Portugal:

Travel registration for everyone over the age of twelve is made via the “Passenger Locator Form - Flight Information” portal.

A PCR test or antigen test is mandatory for people without a digital EU certificate when entering Portugal.

  • Austria

: If you want to enter the neighboring country, the 3G rule still applies.

So everyone has to be vaccinated, recovered or tested.

Exceptions apply to children up to the age of 12.

    The neighboring country of

    Switzerland

even allows travelers from EU countries to enter Switzerland without any conditions.

  • France

: There are no requirements for those who have been vaccinated, only a valid proof of vaccination must be presented.

In France, non-vaccinated people must present a negative PCR test, a rapid test or proof of recovery.

  • Greece:

There is no longer an obligation to register online.

Holidaymakers who have a Covid vaccination certificate recognized in the EU can enter Greece.

Entry is also possible with a negative PCR test up to 72 hours old or with a rapid test that has been negative within 24 hours before arrival.

  • Turkey

: Travelers have three options: they must be vaccinated at least twice, present a certificate of convalescence not older than six months, or present a negative test result.

Children under the age of twelve are exempt from the rule.
