Parent leaderships from six schools in Rosh HaAyin have sharply criticized the mayor's decision to dedicate an education day to the heritage of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, published in Walla !.
In a letter sent today (Monday) to Mayor Shalom Ben Moshe, they demanded that the plan be canceled on the grounds of violating religious freedom, and clarified that they would act against it in case he did not return it.
"We were amazed to hear about your decision to dedicate a special school day that 'miraculously elevates the Rebbe's wonderful values, including redemption and the coming of the Messiah' in the city's secular educational institutions," wrote Deputy Mayor Rosh HaAyin and education portfolio holder Omar Schechter and parent leaders at Haim Guri School. Shimon Peres School, Rona Ramon School, Tzomach School, Afek School and Gvanim Middle School.
"There is no doubt that the Lubavitcher Rebbe's legacy is a special one, which will happen to various publics in Israel. However, the authority to declare special school days is not reserved for the municipality, but for the Ministry of Education.
"This is a particularly controversial content - should secular students learn about the coming of the Messiah? About redemption?", They continued.
"In this regard, the procedures enshrined in the Circular of the Director General and the regulations of the Ministry of Education explicitly state that parents in state-secular education have the right to receive secular education: 'Part of the freedom of religion granted to parents is to educate their children according to religion ", They added.

"The Chabad movement, being a movement for repentance, is receiving widespread public criticism," they argued.
We urge you not to allow a foothold for Messianic movements in secular schools and not to allow them to reveal their contents about the coming of any Messiah to our children.
We call on you to immediately cancel this organization's invasion of educational institutions and inform you that we will not hesitate to fight at the public and legal level against the intention to turn the secular schools in Rosh HaAyin into centers of repentance, missionaryism and falsified values. "
Last week it was announced that Rosh HaAyin and Holon will mark for the first time the birthday of the Rebbe of Lubavitch, 11th of Nisan, in educational institutions, including secular schools. The mayor has no authority to introduce this content to schools without the approval of the Ministry of Education.
