The Freising health department has been working at full speed since Omikron to track contacts.

Now the capacities are to be used more effectively.

– The “omicron wave” of the corona virus has caused the number of cases to skyrocket.

Since December 2021, the contact tracing team (CTT) of the Freising health department has been confronted with a large number of new infections, which is why "the internal processes have been adjusted accordingly," reports district office press spokesman Robert Stangl.

"During the previous "corona waves", people who tested positive for the virus and their contact persons could usually be contacted by telephone.

However, due to the current infection process in the context of the omicron wave, this was no longer affordable.”

Health department Freising: Information on the duration of isolation, medical care and more

In order to continue to inform citizens of the Freising district about their positive test results and the associated regulations, the CTT has been using automated notification by post since the beginning of March.

"Any person who tests positive for the corona virus using a PCR test will receive a letter promptly, usually within three to four days," explains Frank Contu, administrative manager of the Freising Health Department: "In addition to information about the positive test result, this also includes under other information on the duration of isolation, medical care and obtaining an employer’s certificate.”

Personal data, symptoms and close contacts are recorded via the cloud-based system Climedo Health.

"As soon as we receive a positive result from a laboratory, the person concerned receives a link via e-mail and/or SMS from a CTT employee," says Contu.

This enables access to the corresponding online questionnaires.

"For all citizens who have neither an e-mail address nor a mobile phone number, we have set up an online questionnaire on the homepage of the district office."

Health department Freising: contact tracing team can resume corona phone

By switching to postal notification of infected people, existing capacities could be used even more effectively in the future.

The focus is now "on the areas that are often confronted with serious effects of the virus, especially hospitals, retirement homes and facilities for people with disabilities".

The processing of daily electronic and telephone inquiries from citizens can now be pursued more intensively again.

In this context, the CTT's corona telephone could also be resumed after it had to be temporarily stopped due to the massive incidence of infection.

Robert Stangl: “Over the past four weeks, an average of 508 new infections per day have been reported to the Freising Health Department.

In order to be able to ensure the processing of incoming laboratory reports seven days a week, around 50 employees currently work full-time or part-time at the CTT.

In addition to the employees of the Freising district office, these also include other support staff from the government of Upper Bavaria, the tax office in Erding and the Bavarian police.

The aim of the Freising CT team is always to inform the citizens of the Freising district immediately and reliably about the infection and the necessary measures.”
