According to calculations by the taxpayers’ association, the resigned Federal Minister for Family Affairs Anne Spiegel (Greens) is entitled to almost 76,000 euros in transitional money.

“After just one day in office, a federal minister is entitled to a transitional allowance of around 75,660 euros.

Depending on the length of the term of office, the transitional allowance can rise to almost 227,000 euros, which is granted for a maximum of two years after leaving the company," the taxpayers' association announced on Tuesday.

According to the Federal Ministers Act, the transitional allowance is paid for the same number of months that a retired minister has received official emoluments, "but for at least six months and a maximum of two years".

For the first three months there is therefore the full official salary and "for the rest of the reference period half of this salary".

Anne Spiegel took over the ministry on December 9 and has been in office for a good four months since then.

Anne Spiegel's resignation: Ricarda Lang comments on the successor

+++ 3.30 p.m .:

The Greens want to clarify the successor to the resigned Federal Minister for Family Affairs Anne Spiegel before Easter if possible.

The party will "announce the decision promptly," said Greens leader Ricarda Lang after a closed meeting of the federal executive board in Husum.

The only thing that is clear so far is: "It will be a woman." "The other requirement will be competence," emphasized the party leader.

The office is very important for the modernization of society.

The Minister for Family Affairs also currently bears a special responsibility in view of the many women and children from the Ukraine who are coming to Germany.

It is therefore very important "to fill this position well with this requirement".

The party feels it is its duty to "promptly make a proposal," said co-party leader Omid Nouripour.

"We hope to be through with this by Easter," he added.

The party leadership is currently holding many discussions on this.

Nouripour also referred to the "major tasks" facing the Ministry of Family Affairs.

Lang also told the broadcasters RTL and ntv in the morning that she didn't think "that we would be dealing with this question beyond Easter".

When asked about younger candidates like parliamentary group leader Katharina Dröge, she replied that the Greens had many politicians of all ages who had experience and expertise.

"We'll look at that now.

And then we, as the national board, will make a joint proposal.”

Spiegel resigned on Monday.

She is accused of going on holiday to France for four weeks as Rhineland-Palatinate environment minister last year shortly after the flood disaster in the Ahr valley.

There was also criticism of their communication, both then and now.

Spiegel justified the vacation by saying that it was very important for her in a difficult family situation.

Lang contradicted RTL and ntv representations that the party leadership had pressured Spiegel to resign.

The party leadership was in conversation with her all day Monday, "in the end she made the decision to resign" in order to "protect this office".

Lang spoke out in favor of taking the resignation of the 41-year-old as an opportunity for a debate about the better compatibility of family and political offices.

"It must be possible in our society," emphasized the Green Party leader.

CDU Vice Karin Prien also sees Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) weakened after Spiegel's resignation.

“After four months he has at least one minister who goes of her own accord.

He might have one or two more where you have to ask the question, are they in the right position.

It's not a real departure," said Prien RTL.

Hamburg's CDU leader Christoph Ploß criticized in the "Welt" that the Greens "primarily assigned ministerial posts based on criteria such as gender, origin or wing affiliation instead of qualification and suitability".

+++ 10.30 a.m .:

The Federal Chairwoman of the Greens, Ricarda Lang, considers a decision on the successor to the resigned Federal Minister for Family Affairs Anne Spiegel to be likely this week.

The party will take the necessary time.

"Nevertheless, there is now a need to clarify this question quickly," said Lang on Tuesday's RTL/ntv program "Frühstart".

"That means I don't think we'll be dealing with this question beyond Easter."

Lang indicated that a woman would again take over the post in the Ministry of Family Affairs.

At that time, the party said that the posts would be filled equally.

“Of course we will stick to this principle,” she said.

The most important requirement is that the person takes responsibility for families, children and the open society.

Resignation of Anne Spiegel: 75,600 euros transitional allowance for outgoing family minister

Update from Tuesday, April 12th, 2022, 7 a.m.:

Anne Spiegel will receive a transitional allowance after her resignation as Federal Minister for Family Affairs.

The deputy chairman of the taxpayers' association, Michael Jäger, said the image: "Anyone who leaves the cabinet will receive a transitional allowance of 75,600 euros after one day in office as a minister.

This supply is totally oversized.”

The amount of the transitional allowance results from paragraph 14 of the Federal Ministers Act.

According to Bild, Spiegel receives 4.5 monthly salaries after she has been in charge of the family ministry since the beginning of December.

The Green politician announced her resignation on Monday “due to political pressure”.

The 41-year-old thus drew the consequences after her controversial vacation in France, which she took as Minister of the Environment for Rhineland-Palatinate in the summer of 2021 shortly after the flood disaster on the Ahr.

Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was moved by the resignation of Family Minister Anne Spiegel.

"She went through an extremely hard, personally incredibly difficult time," said the Green politician on Monday afternoon at the sidelines of an EU meeting in Luxembourg.

"Today is not only a political, but also a personal step for you, which I think makes it clear how brutal politics can be."

"This is a reminder for all of us in politics," said Baerbock, also looking at Spiegel's press conference, with which the minister tried to avert resignation on Sunday.

Comment on resignation

Vacation instead of flood disaster: Anne Spiegel (Greens) had no choice but to resign.

The minister's lies were her undoing.

A comment.*

+++ 12.45 p.m .:

Family Minister Anne Spiegel has apparently concealed from her own party that she went on a four-week vacation to France shortly after the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley.

This is reported by the news portal Zeit Online.

According to the report, Spiegel's silence refers to a crisis meeting of the Greens in Rhineland-Palatinate.

During the meeting, the question was specifically asked whether her case was comparable to that of the resigned Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser.

Heinen-Esser resigned after her vacation in Mallorca became known shortly after the flood disaster a few days ago.

Since the then Environment Minister Spiegel, according to the report, concealed her vacation, the Rhineland-Palatinate party leadership did not feel compelled to act.

Anne Spiegel is on vacation during the Ahr Valley flood disaster: Minister with an emotional apology

Update from Monday, April 11th, 2022, 7.30 a.m .:

Federal Family Minister Anne Spiegel (Greens) described her four-week family vacation after the flood disaster last summer as a mistake and apologized for it.

She justified her decision at the time as Minister for Family and Environment in Rhineland-Palatinate in a memorable appearance before journalists on Sunday evening, among other things, with the health of her husband, who had suffered a stroke.

Her family needed the vacation "because my husband couldn't take it anymore," said the 41-year-old, who seemed visibly battered and whose voice faltered several times during the performance.

"It was a mistake that we went on vacation for so long and I apologize for this mistake."

As a further justification, the minister stated that Corona had been “an insane challenge” for her family.

The pandemic had “clearly left its mark” on her four children of daycare and primary school age.

Family Minister Anne Spiegel: Holidays despite the flood disaster in Ahrntal

Spiegel did not comment on the resignation demands from the opposition.

She declined to answer questions.

Her party, the Greens, initially gave no comment on Sunday evening when asked.

On Monday, the federal executive committee of the party will meet in Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, for a closed conference.

Bild reported that there was a crisis meeting with the Green Ministers Robert Habeck, Annalena Baerbock, and the party and parliamentary group leaders on Sunday.

Spiegel was suggested to resign, but she asked to be given another chance, reported Blatt.

The Greens did not initially comment on the report.

However, the family minister had to correct information that she had given to the "Bild am Sonntag" on Saturday.

Contrary to what was originally announced, she did not join the cabinet meetings from her vacation.

The meetings were listed in their calendar.

However, a review of the cabinet minutes revealed on Sunday that she did not take part.

Flood disaster in the Ahr Valley: Minister Spiegel went on summer vacation for four weeks

First report, April 10th, 2022:

Berlin – After the resignation of the North Rhine-Westphalian Minister of the Environment Ursula Heinen-Esser (CDU) because of a holiday in Mallorca during the flood disaster, the pressure on Federal Minister for Family Affairs Anne Spiegel (Greens) is now also growing.

Only ten days after the devastating floods on the Ahr, the then Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of the Environment traveled to France for a four-week vacation with her family *, as the picture on Sunday at the Ministry of the Environment in Mainz learned.

Demands for his resignation come from the opposition.

After school in the voluntary service in the Ahr Valley*: This is now possible in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The project should also bring more people into the craft.

Spiegel therefore only interrupted her vacation for two on-site appointments on August 10th.

She informed herself in Dümpelfeld about the repair of the sewage treatment plant, in the Ahr Valley she looked at how far the helpers had gotten with the clean-up work.

Then it was back to the holiday home in France - for the second half of the holiday.

According to the ministry, the vacation ended on August 23.

In defense of the long-term vacation, the Ministry of the Environment emphasized that Spiegel could have been reached by phone and email "around the clock".

Flood disaster in the Ahr Valley: "Spiegel is unacceptable"

Spiegel had already come under criticism because she was worried about her reputation immediately after the night of the flood.

On July 15, her spokesman wrote to the minister and other employees: "Anne needs a credible role." look like political instrumentalization".

The minister replied to her spokesman: "That coincides with my thoughts." (ktho/tu with dpa/AFP)
