Pupils from the Rainer-Maria-Rilke-Gymnasium in Icking collected 20,000 euros with a charity run.

The money will be used to rebuild destroyed schools in Yemen.

Icking

– For the third time, the students of the Rainer-Maria-Rilke-Gymnasium gave their all in a charity run for children in Yemen.

Almost 22,000 euros were raised in October 2021 when around 700 high school students made their running shoes glow.

Many teachers support the charity run as marshals.

At least ten laced up their running shoes themselves.

The official handover of the check took place these days.

"We were incredibly lucky with the weather," said stage spokesman Philipp Gampe, recalling the day in late autumn.

His comrade-in-arms David Bogenberger added with a smile: "The day was really ordered." Ordered to work hard, for children who have had to endure a lot of destruction from the war in Yemen since the beginning of the war in 2015 and for whom the association founded in Munich in 2017 "Hayati Karamati" (My Life - My Dignity) wants to enable a small piece of normality and schooling

Said AlDailami accepted the check with great joy.

He was visibly enthusiastic about the generous support of the Ickinger students: "It is remarkable for our young club that we receive such a large sum." And that in a row.

In 2020, the boys and girls have already raised around 13,000 euros.

Also in July 2019 a proud sum was raised for the children in Yemen.

Chemistry teacher Anton Demmel made contact with the aid organization.

His daughter Claudia Demmel, who herself went to school in Icking, is treasurer of the association.

Said AlDailami said the money will be used to rebuild nine schools in the Dhamar region, about 90 kilometers from the capital Sanaa, and pay for around 300 teachers.

"After the state collapsed completely, teachers' salaries can no longer be paid," explained the full-time employee of the Hans Seidel Foundation.

The teachers would be supported with the equivalent of 60 euros each: "That's enough for a family with three children for about a month." Day labourers.” Tragically, people in Yemen have gotten used to the war.

"When it's quiet, the children go to school, bombs fall, they stay at home."

Said AlDailami continues to focus on educational work and hopes for support beyond the charity run.

He addressed his request to the Ickinger level spokesman: “For example, I will soon be speaking about the situation in Yemen at Banz Monastery.

It would be great if we could connect you live as a positive example.” Despite the stress of leaving school, the approval was written all over the students' foreheads.
